All 33 distinct Series 1 numbered stickers have two documented physical border colors, for 66 colored versions. #1–11 purple/yellow, #12–22 blue/red, #23–33 green/orange. Source-linked side-by-side original front photographs identify each variation. The original puzzle reverse is common to the color alternatives. Image reproduction rights remain uncleared.

Red-border cards for Return of the Jedi

The first 1983 Topps Return of the Jedi series has 132 numbered trading cards with red borders and 33 separately numbered stickers. Numbered card 1 is the film title card, and numbers 131 and 132 are checklists. The original series groups character portraits and film stills in a continuous 1–132 sequence. Its sticker sequence is numbered 1–33, and it should not be confused with the separate 180-sticker Topps album.

Portraits and scenes from the third film

Early numbered entries include Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Lando Calrissian. Later cards follow Jabba's palace, the desert rescue, Endor and the final confrontation. Some captions describe events rather than one character. When identifying a card from a photograph, the red frame, printed number, caption and photograph are more reliable than a subject's name taken out of context.

Stories and character artwork on the reverses

The numbered card backs combine descriptions of characters and story events with full-body character illustrations. Their formatting differs from the Star Quiz backs used on the following blue-border series. The reverse photograph is part of the same numbered physical card, not a new entry in the checklist. Matching a card by both sides helps distinguish originals from later products that reuse similar movie stills.

Thirty-three sticker numbers and color variants

Series 1 stickers run from 1 through 33 and feature die-cut character pictures. Multiple collecting references report two color versions of each number, making 66 possible number-and-color combinations. The IDS checklist presently indexes 33 numbered sticker identities, not a separately verified row for every color. A source-linked picture of one sticker does not document both versions; variation-specific images would need their own evidence.

Linked photographs and what they cover

The structured checklist contains 165 front-image URLs: 132 numbered cards and 33 sticker entries. It also contains 132 matching numbered-card back URLs. No verified reverse images are attached to the sticker records. The old catalog's figure of 132 fronts left out the existing sticker photography. The corrected total describes third-party links, not locally owned scans, verified site uptime, or an assertion that both sticker colors are photographed.

How this edition was verified

The StarWarsCards.net checklist and esbirrios Series 1 gallery identify card codes, sticker codes and photographic matches. PSA's set profile provides an independent breakdown of the two 1983 card series and sticker distribution. The sources support the base and sticker counts and the distinction between printed sticker numbers and colored variants. They do not establish printing quantities or current card prices.
