One year after the planning begins

By 3 BBY, Ghorman's disputes with the Empire had intensified. Local activists believed that Imperial policy threatened their home and livelihoods. The Ghorman Front emerged as an important focus for the networked resistance outside the better-known military cells.

External observers and local leaders

Luthen sent operatives, including Vel Sartha and Cinta Kaz, to assess the situation. Their interest did not make them the leaders of the Ghorman population. The organization relied on residents with their own goals and knowledge.

Escalating danger

Imperial agencies treated dissent as a security problem and responded with surveillance and pressure. At the same time, competing rebel factions weighed whether supporting the Front would help the wider cause or expose their agents.

Anthropological assessment

The Ghorman movement illustrates the difference between solidarity and control. Outside allies can support local resistance, but the inhabitants of a planet retain political agency rather than simply becoming instruments of a galactic campaign.

Did the Ghorman Front originate only from Luthen's offworld orders?

No. Ghorman inhabitants organized around their own local political grievances.

What the original story establishes

Local Ghorman residents expanded the Ghorman Front in response to Imperial restrictions and suspicions about the regime's ambitions. External contacts including Vel Sartha sought to understand or influence the developing movement. The Front's activity existed within a society with its own occupations, language, political differences and places of assembly.

Culture, power and material life

A resistance organization has to negotiate who speaks for a community, what actions are acceptable, and whether outside allies can be trusted. Treating Ghorman as a backdrop for offworld operatives would erase local initiative. The Front's recruitment work also shows how repression can produce solidarity while making citizens disagree about tactical escalation.
