Why games matter
Playing the galaxy changes how it is understood
Interactive storytelling does things film and prose cannot. It asks the player to make decisions, navigate institutions, manage resources, and physically move through the environments that other formats describe.
01 · ChoiceAgency becomes story
KOTOR, KOTOR II, SWTOR, and other role-playing games make allegiance, identity, relationships, and moral decisions part of the player's experience.
02 · InstitutionsSystems can be played
Military command, Imperial surveillance, criminal reputation, squad cohesion, and territorial control become mechanics rather than background exposition.
03 · PlaceWorlds become spaces
Players walk through cities, ruins, bases, ships, frontier settlements, and planets at a scale that makes environmental detail especially important.
04 · CharactersGames create icons
Revan, Bastila, Kreia, Malak, Cal Kestis, Kay Vess, Starkiller, and many others entered Star Wars primarily through interactive media.
