FIELD GUIDE / MUSTAFAR EXPERIENCE
BEFORE YOU ENTER VADER'S FORTRESS
Three episodes.
One impossible encounter.
Vader Immortal is not a sprawling RPG or an open-world sandbox. It is a tightly directed, first-person VR adventure in which you explore Darth Vader's fortress, handle physical objects, learn lightsaber combat and gain Force abilities. The separate Lightsaber Dojos are where most of the skill-based replay comes from.
IThen II → III
01 / THE EXPERIENCE
Star Wars at
human scale.
The central attraction is physical presence. Darth Vader does not merely fill a cinema screen. He can stand in the same virtual room as the player, close enough that his height, voice and deliberate movements become part of the encounter. Mustafar is experienced as corridors, control rooms, ancient ruins and vertiginous lava-side structures that must be explored from the inside.
You play a Force-sensitive smuggler with a droid co-pilot named ZO-E3. An unexpected Imperial interception brings you to Vader's castle and into his attempt to exploit the secrets hidden beneath Mustafar. The story was written specifically for VR, so reaching, looking, holding, deflecting and manipulating objects all contribute to the narrative.

02 / THE THREE-PART STORY
Choose your episode.
Follow the narrative in order. Each episode has a story adventure and its own distinct Lightsaber Dojo.
EPISODE I / MAY 21, 2019PART ONE / THE CAPTURE
Enter the fortress.
Your ship is pulled off course near Mustafar. With ZO-E3 at your side, you become a prisoner of the Empire and an unwilling participant in Vader's search for a hidden relic.
What you actually do
Explore an Imperial stronghold, look for interactable objects, climb where the scene invites you to climb and practice the fundamentals of holding and defending with a lightsaber. The first Lightsaber Dojo concentrates on timing, direction and deflecting incoming attacks.
Best first objective Learn controller grip and recentering before starting. Spend a few rounds in Dojo I after the story introduces the blade.
Official Episode I information ↗
EPISODE II / SEPTEMBER 25, 2019PART TWO / BENEATH MUSTAFAR
Master the Force.
Vader drives the search deeper into Mustafar's ancient chambers. The episode introduces the Darkghast and expands your repertoire beyond direct lightsaber defense.
What you actually do
Practice selecting and moving objects with the Force, throwing an ignited lightsaber and combining different tools against enemies. Look around the underground environments before moving on, especially where environmental storytelling hints at Corvax's past.
Best first objective Build consistency with Force grabbing and releasing instead of relying only on close-range swings.

EPISODE III / NOVEMBER 21, 2019PART THREE / THE FINALE
Confront the dark lord.
The rebellion against Vader's plan reaches its final stage. Expect an Imperial assault, an escalating confrontation and the conclusion of the Mustafar mystery.
What you actually do
Use lightsaber defense and Force interactions under more pressure. Dojo III offers the broadest combat sandbox, including unlockable classic hilts, dual-wielding, a double-bladed saber and other special tools.
Best first objective Finish the story before experimenting with the larger Dojo III equipment roster.

A better first 30 minutes.
Get the right edition
Confirm that the store listing supports your exact headset. Clear a safe play area, check controller tracking and adjust the virtual floor height.
Let the story teach you
Begin with the narrative. Watch character movement and environmental cues; the early scenes introduce movement, exploration and physical interaction.
Practice, then advance
After learning to handle the blade, play a few rounds of Lightsaber Dojo I. Move to Episode II and its new Force mechanics when you're comfortable.
04 / HOW THE GAME PLAYS
Look. Reach. Defend.

Physical interaction
Look closely at nearby objects and listen for audio or visual cues. VR tasks often require pointing a controller, reaching a hand or physically moving rather than choosing a menu command.
Lightsaber defense
Keep your blade ready to intercept an attack rather than making constant large swings. Watch each opponent's timing and reset your guard after a successful block.
Force abilities
Episode II expands the toolkit with Force manipulation and saber throwing. Take time to establish the selection gesture and the direction of your throw before rushing into attacks.
Cinematic pacing
The story is guided rather than a free-roaming galaxy. If you want repeated combat and unlocks, go to Lightsaber Dojo; if you want plot and atmosphere, select an episode.
05 / STUCK IN VR?
Try this first.
Platform menus and hand gestures vary. These are general starting checks, not undocumented button-by-button instructions.
My VR hands are too far away, too low or drifting
Use your headset's recenter control and verify the floor boundary and controller tracking. Face the intended play direction and restart the scene only if tracking remains unreliable.
I can see an object, but cannot pick it up
Step or teleport within comfortable reach, check which hand is active, and try the grip input shown by your controller tutorial. In Episode II, make sure you are using the Force interaction taught in the scene rather than a normal physical grab.
I keep losing in a Lightsaber Dojo wave
Watch where the next attacker appears. Reduce unnecessary swings, defend one angle at a time, and focus on a reliable block before attacking. In later Dojos, alternate weapon and Force tools rather than trying to solve every enemy with the same move.
I cannot find the next story objective
Look for the companion's guidance, newly lit objects, open doors and scene-specific environmental cues. This is a scripted story experience rather than a giant level with an open objective list.
I'm uncomfortable during movement
Try seated play if the platform supports it, verify comfort settings and take a break. Stop playing if you feel unwell. Check the headset manufacturer's play-space and comfort guidance.
06 / INTERACTIVE TRAINING TERMINAL
Master the Lightsaber Dojo.
Each episode includes a separate repeatable dojo. Pick the one you own and your current skill level for a useful training focus.

Build a reliable guard.
Practice raising the saber into an incoming strike, then return to your neutral guard. Focus on timing rather than swinging hard.
Dojo tips are editorial training suggestions, not official scoring formulas or promises of unlock thresholds. Later Dojo III features include dual sabers, a double-bladed saber, blasters and Force lightning under the conditions described by ILMxLAB. ILMxLAB's explanation ↗

08 / VR HARDWARE & BUYING GUIDE
Will it run on your headset?
Don't buy the PlayStation edition for the wrong VR generation. Check the exact store listing before purchasing hardware or software.
Your Meta Quest can play Vader Immortal.
Meta lists Quest 3S, Quest 3, Quest Pro, Quest 2 and the original Quest among Episode I's supported platforms. Check all three episodes in your region before purchasing.
View the official Quest Store ↗Quest episodes are sold separately. The current Episode I listing shows a single-player experience with seated, standing and room-scale modes. A Quest Store purchase is not automatically a PlayStation license.
The PlayStation Store lists the complete trilogy as a PS4-era PS VR title that requires an original PS VR headset, a PS Camera and Move controllers. On a compatible PS5 setup, additional adapter requirements apply.
Sony confirms that PS VR2 cannot play original PS VR software. Despite an inconsistent Lucasfilm support listing, do not assume that the existing PS4 Vader Immortal purchase works on a PS VR2 headset.

09 / LORE & THE VOLCANIC WORLD
Mustafar is more
than a backdrop.
Vader's fortress operates as a seat of personal authority. Its architecture joins Imperial technology to an older landscape of Sith and local history. The player's passage downward—from controlled corridors into buried chambers—changes what kind of power seems to matter: orders and security systems above, hidden legacies and contested memory below.
The Bright Star, the ancient Corvax story and the Darkghast connect the trilogy's present conflict to generations of Mustafarian history. These are not generic collectibles inserted into the environment. They are central to Vader's larger ambition and to why the player is useful to him.
For a first playthrough, try observing how the fortress channels movement: who may open a door, who gives orders, which spaces the Imperial personnel control, and what changes once you leave those spaces.

10 / THE PEOPLE AND CREATURES
Who you'll encounter.
Darth Vader
The commanding presence at the center of the story. His pursuit of the Bright Star shapes the expedition and tests the smuggler's allegiance.
ZO-E3
A droid co-pilot who provides conversation, personality and practical guidance, giving the lone player a social connection in otherwise intimidating spaces.
Lady Corvax
The history of Corvax and the Bright Star provides the older conflict behind Vader's present goal. The story reveals this gradually across the episodes.
Mustafarian Priestess
The present-day spiritual leader who shares the story of Lady Corvax, directs the captain toward the Bright Star, and represents Mustafarian traditions.
The Darkghast
A dangerous subterranean creature met in the search beneath Mustafar. Its design makes scale and proximity part of the threat in VR.

11 / THE IDS ANTHROPOLOGICAL LENS
How VR makes power physical.
Vader's presence
A cinema audience sees Vader as a towering figure. A VR player must orient their own gaze and virtual body around his. His authority is communicated through scale, distance, voice and controlled motion, not just dialogue.
Ritualized skill
The dojo turns Jedi-associated practices into repetition. Defensive movements, attention and the handling of a weapon become learned habits. Unlockable lightsabers also assign cultural importance to recognizable objects from the wider saga.
Access and restriction
Mustafar is organized into spaces that grant or deny movement. The fortress reproduces Imperial control while the older subterranean ruins contest the assumption that the Empire owns everything it occupies.
IDS analysis is independent interpretation, not an official Lucasfilm statement. This page distinguishes game-confirmed facts, training suggestions and anthropological commentary.
12 / QUICK ANSWERS
Before you buy or play.
Is Vader Immortal a full open-world Star Wars game?
No. The episodes are directed interactive stories rather than an open-world RPG. The additional Lightsaber Dojos provide the skill-based replay.
Do I need to play Episodes I, II and III in order?
Yes, if you want to follow the story. Episode II picks up after the first episode and introduces Force mechanics; Episode III concludes the arc. Each episode also has its own Dojo.
Can I play without a headset?
No. Vader Immortal was designed as a VR-first experience and requires a compatible headset and the correct platform edition.
Does it have multiplayer or online co-op?
No. The Meta and PlayStation store listings identify a single-player experience.
Does PlayStation VR2 work with the existing PS4 version?
No. The current PlayStation Store edition is an original PS VR title. Sony's compatibility guide explicitly states PS VR2 does not play PS VR games.
Are the Amazon links purchases of the VR game?
Not necessarily. The Amazon shelf features related headsets, accessories and collectibles. Use the official Meta or PlayStation store links above for the actual software and confirm compatibility before buying.
