HISTORICAL REFERENCE / NO ACTIVE GAME

How the arena worked

01 / GAME MODES

Competing for objectives

Squad Brawl focused on eliminations. Trophy Chase and control modes made objectives and team coordination central to matches.

02 / HUNTER ROLES

Distinct combat jobs

Tanks, damage fighters and supports played different roles in Vespaara's competitive arena spectacle.

03 / CLOSURE

Not playable today

Zynga closed the online servers on October 1, 2025. There is no officially supported offline mode.

HISTORICAL FILE / NO LONGER PLAYABLE

Star Wars: Hunters — archived arena play and shutdown guide

HISTORICAL ARCHIVE. Star Wars: Hunters is no longer playable. Zynga closed its online servers on October 1, 2025, including every mode on every platform. This guide documents how the arena worked, rather than directing visitors to a game they can still launch.

  1. 01 / AVAILABILITY

    Servers closed October 1, 2025

The developer confirmed a complete service shutdown. Installing an old app does not restore matchmaking, offline play or access to the combat modes. Treat videos and screenshots as historical records of the original experience.

  2. 02 / ARENA HISTORY

    Vespaara hosted the televised arena

Hunters presented combat as entertainment on the Outer Rim world Vespaara. Fighters appeared as performers with public personas, special abilities and distinct visual identities. This is why team roles and celebrity-like fighter introductions were part of the game's world-building.

  3. 03 / HISTORICAL ROLES

Tanks, Damage and Support filled different team jobs

Tanks absorbed pressure and protected allies, Damage fighters sought eliminations, and Support characters healed or enabled other team members. The team needed a balance of staying power, damage output and objective control, not four interchangeable characters.

  4. 04 / HOW MODES WORKED

    Different arenas rewarded different objectives

Squad Brawl focused on defeating opponents. Power Control emphasized capturing positions, Dynamic Control concentrated fighting around an active moving control point, and Trophy Chase required holding the trophy while the other team tried to take it. Historical match footage should be interpreted according to its specific mode.

  5. 05 / FINAL UPDATE

Tuya and T-U8 joined in April 2025

The April 15, 2025 final content update added the support Hunter Tuya and her companion droid T-U8, disabled in-app purchases, and rotated remaining modes until closure. This roster change occurred before the October server shutdown.

  6. 06 / RESEARCH THE CAST

Read fighters as an arena culture rather than active classes

Rieve's dark-side persona, J-3DI's droid performance, the Jawas Utooni and Rebel-connected figures such as Zaina show how familiar Star Wars symbols became an arena's carefully differentiated personalities. Historical gameplay analysis should not claim these characters are selectable today.

01 · Orientation

What the game is

Hunters frames combat as entertainment inside a post-Imperial arena culture. Its cast of original fighters turns familiar Star Wars archetypes into public personas whose identities are shaped by spectacle, branding, competition, and audience expectations.

IDS places the game in the New Republic era and records its continuity as Canon.

02 · Publication file

Release, studio, and platform context

Star Wars: Hunters was developed by NaturalMotion / BossAlien and published by Zynga. Its primary release platforms in the IDS record are Nintendo Switch; iOS; Android (PC release cancelled).

Star Wars: Hunters ended online service on October 1, 2025, and is no longer playable. IDS retains a historical reference to its arena culture and gameplay.

IDS stores the game itself as one work rather than creating separate records for every port, storefront release, compatibility update, or remaster. Platform history still matters, but the archive avoids inflating a single game into several supposedly different titles.

03 · Story

Narrative and player position

The current IDS story label is Arena competition on Vespaara. The playable role is recorded as Original arena fighters.

Rather than reducing the game to plot summary, IDS tracks what position the player occupies in the galaxy. Playing as Original arena fighters changes which institutions, conflicts, and social relationships the game can make visible.

04 · Gameplay systems

How Star Wars becomes playable

The game translates Star Wars into repeated player actions, objectives, feedback systems, and rules that determine what kinds of behavior the experience rewards.

IDS classifies the title as Arena combat. That label is useful because genre changes what parts of Star Wars become legible: a strategy game foregrounds institutions and logistics, an RPG foregrounds identity and relationships, and an action game often foregrounds bodies, movement, combat, and environmental navigation.

05 · Place

Worlds, routes, and environments

Major locations in the current record include Vespaara. Those places matter because games convert fictional geography into routes, obstacles, hubs, battlefields, workplaces, ruins, or social spaces the player must navigate.

Interactive scale can reveal details that screen media pass over quickly: how far locations are from one another, which areas are restricted, where people gather, what infrastructure connects spaces, and how movement is shaped by vehicles, architecture, terrain, enemies, or local authority.

06 · Institutions

Power, organizations, and social systems

The story context is Arena competition on Vespaara. That places the player inside or alongside institutions whose authority is usually encountered through missions, ranks, restricted spaces, enemies, allies, contracts, or rules.

Games are especially useful for IDS because institutions become operational systems. A faction can control checkpoints, issue objectives, distribute equipment, reward loyalty, restrict movement, organize training, or shape reputation. Those mechanics make political power experiential rather than only descriptive.

07 · People

Characters and playable roles

The current playable-role record is Original arena fighters. IDS uses this field as a route into the characters, crews, military roles, factions, or created player identities through which the game is experienced.

Games often make character identity interactive. Abilities, dialogue choices, party membership, equipment, reputation, and mission access can determine how a player experiences relationships that screen media presents from the outside.

08 · Anthropology

Anthropological analysis

The strongest IDS entry point is the relationship between arena combat mechanics and the story context described as Arena competition on Vespaara. The player does not only learn about the setting; the player is required to act through a particular set of rules.

That distinction matters anthropologically. Interactive media can make hierarchy, labor, mobility, violence, ritual, reputation, resource management, or identity into repeatable behaviors. IDS therefore reads games as designed social systems as well as narrative texts.

09 · Source record

Verify the game

IDS separates release facts from independently written summaries and analysis. External links are retained as verification sources, but the substantive game description now lives inside IDS instead of requiring the visitor to leave the archive.
