This is the regular print-book side of Star Wars: prose novels, film novelizations, young adult and middle-grade fiction, reference books, and art books. Comics, manga, and graphic novels stay in their own archives so a hardcover novel is never mixed with a comic collection.

Books 101
What counts on this page?
The archive separates story format from continuity. A book can be Canon or Legends, adult or young-reader, fiction or reference, without being treated like a comic issue.
Adult novel
Full-length prose fiction marketed primarily to adult readers. This includes books such as Bloodline, Thrawn, and Darth Plagueis.
Young adult
Prose novels aimed at teen readers. They are still full Star Wars stories and often introduce major characters or events.
Middle grade
Long-form fiction written for younger readers. High Republic books such as A Test of Courage belong here.
Novelization
A prose adaptation of a film or screen story. Novelizations can contain internal narration and additional detail not presented the same way on screen.
Reference book
Nonfiction-style Star Wars material such as timelines, visual dictionaries, character encyclopedias, in-universe histories, and technical guides.
Art book
Production-focused books built around concept art, costumes, environments, visual development, and behind-the-scenes design.
Canon
The coordinated continuity used by most new Star Wars storytelling after Lucasfilm's 2014 publishing reset.
Legends
The label applied to most of the earlier Expanded Universe. Legends novels remain important publishing history and are still widely collected.

Where to start
Reading paths that make sense
Star Wars prose is too large to treat as one mandatory reading order. Character, era, or publishing-line paths are much easier to follow.
Sith & dark side
For Legends, start with Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, continue through the Bane trilogy, then Darth Plagueis. Add Shatterpoint and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter for different dark-side perspectives.
Thrawn
Legends begins with Heir to the Empire. Canon begins with Thrawn, continues through Alliances and Treason, then goes backward into Chiss society with the Ascendancy trilogy.
High Republic
For the adult spine, read Light of the Jedi, The Rising Storm, The Fallen Star, then the Phase II and Phase III adult novels. YA and middle-grade books deepen the same era without being required for every reader.
Empire & rebellion
A New Dawn, Tarkin, Lords of the Sith, Catalyst, Twilight Company, and The Mask of Fear show the Empire from political, military, and resistance viewpoints.
After Return of the Jedi
The Aftermath trilogy covers the Empire's collapse. The Princess and the Scoundrel, Shadow of the Sith, Bloodline, and Legacy carry the story toward the sequel era.
Obi-Wan & Anakin
Master & Apprentice explores Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, Padawan goes earlier in Obi-Wan's training, Brotherhood examines Obi-Wan and Anakin during the Clone Wars, and Kenobi offers a Legends look at exile.

Recent and announced books
The book archive includes the latest major print releases and announced prose so the site does not stop with older Expanded Universe material.
Legacy
Madeleine Roux's 2026 adult novel follows Leia training Rey between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, including a search for answers about the broken Skywalker lightsaber.
Eyes Like Stars
Ashley Poston's 2026 young-adult novel was announced as the first official Star Wars romance, set before The Force Awakens with original characters.
Hiding from the Dark
Kiersten White's 2026 middle-grade book brings a dedicated horror story to younger Star Wars readers.
Master of Evil
Adam Christopher's 2025 Darth Vader novel follows Vader's obsession with conquering death in the early Imperial period.
Reign of the Empire
Alexander Freed's The Mask of Fear opened a trilogy centered on Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Saw Gerrera during the Empire's first year.
Twin Crossroads
Beth Revis's announced April 2027 adult novel follows Luke and Leia training together after Return of the Jedi. IDS marks it as upcoming rather than published.
What is not mixed into this archive
Separate shelves stay separate
Keeping formats apart makes searching and collecting much clearer.
Comics
Single issues, comic runs, variants, and collected comic editions belong in the IDS Comic Archive.
Manga
Manga adaptations and original manga will eventually have their own publishing filter rather than being treated as prose novels.
Graphic novels
Original graphic novels use sequential art and belong with comics/graphic storytelling, even when sold as hardcover books.
Audiobook originals
Audio-first stories are not counted as regular print novels unless a printed script or book edition is separately published.
Research method
How IDS handles book continuity
Publication year, audience, format, continuity, series, era, and major characters are stored separately. That prevents a Legends paperback, Canon hardcover, YA novel, and reference guide from being flattened into one meaningless list.
The current archive is a researched foundation, not yet a claim that every Star Wars print book ever released is indexed. New titles, older Legends lines, film novelizations, reference books, and special editions can continue to be added without changing the structure.
