Quick read: Lucasfilm has announced Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn, a five-issue Marvel miniseries based on a story by Dave Filoni. Beginning January 20, 2027, it follows Ezra Bridger aboard the Chimaera during the unseen portion of his escape from Peridea.

The missing chapter between Peridea and Home One

Lucasfilm has announced Star Wars: Ahsoka — Escape from Thrawn, a five-issue Marvel Comics miniseries designed to answer a question left deliberately unresolved at the end of Ahsoka Season 1: how did Ezra Bridger get from Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship to his reunion with Hera Syndulla? The first issue arrives January 20, 2027, the same day Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+.

The story originates with Ahsoka creator and Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni. Rodney Barnes is writing the comic, Andrea Di Vito provides interior art, and Phil Noto created the cover. According to Lucasfilm’s official synopsis, Ezra has stowed away aboard the Chimaera after leaving Peridea, but reaching the familiar galaxy does not mean he is safe.

Ezra must evade Captain Enoch, contend with the Nightsisters’ dark magick, and outmaneuver Thrawn while trapped aboard the Imperial strategist’s flagship. The premise turns a short piece of television narrative shorthand into its own survival story and gives Marvel room to explore what happened before Ezra appeared on Home One disguised in Night Trooper armor.

A comic positioned directly beside Season 2

The January 20 release date is unusually significant because Escape from Thrawn #1 and Ahsoka Season 2 premiere on the same day. Lucasfilm explicitly describes the miniseries as a companion to the upcoming season, making it more closely synchronized with the live-action series than a conventional adaptation or loosely connected tie-in.

That does not mean readers should assume the comic is required homework for Season 2. What Lucasfilm has confirmed is that the series tells an unseen canonical adventure connected to Ezra’s escape. Its placement gives readers additional context for a character who is expected to play a major role in the New Republic’s struggle against Thrawn after returning home.

The announcement also demonstrates how Lucasfilm continues to distribute pieces of a single historical period across television, animation, novels, and comics. Ezra began in animation, moved into live action, and will now have a significant missing episode of his live-action story represented through sequential art.
