LEGO Ideas Opens First Star Wars and Marvel Mash-Up Challenge
Fans can combine characters, vehicles or scenes from A New Hope and Marvel Comics in a new LEGO Ideas contest, with voting set to begin December 15.

Quick read: Lucasfilm and LEGO Ideas announced a Star Wars and Marvel fan-building challenge at New York Comic Con. Entries can mix figures, vehicles or scenes, with public voting scheduled to begin December 15, 2026.
A contest connected to the 2027 anniversary
At the 2026 New York Comic Con, LEGO Ideas opened a fan challenge that combines Star Wars: A New Hope with Marvel Comics characters and imagery. Lucasfilm announced the contest October 10 as part of the buildup to the original film's 50th anniversary in 2027. The contest draws on a broader crossover campaign involving Star Wars and Marvel, but the LEGO submission program is a distinct fan-participation activity rather than an announced retail model.
Lucasfilm describes three submission themes: Character Fusion, Vehicle Fusion and Scene Fusion. Each gives entrants a different organizing rule. A character fusion might combine visual traits associated with figures from the two properties; a vehicle fusion might reimagine recognizable fictional machines; a scene fusion can create a staged encounter between familiar settings or characters. Entrants must consult the actual LEGO Ideas rules to determine eligibility and acceptable content.
What is confirmed about timing and submissions
The challenge is open for submissions through the LEGO Ideas platform. Lucasfilm says voting will begin December 15, 2026 and that grand-prize selections will be announced in 2027. The official description specifies that submitted work should draw from Marvel Comics and Star Wars: A New Hope, not from any unrestricted combination of Disney-owned movies, games or shows.
Before building, participants should read the current rules and guidelines at ideas.lego.com. The announcement does not itself guarantee that every entry will qualify or that a winning model will become a commercially released LEGO set. Contest recognition and retail production are different processes, and any purchase or manufacturing implications require a separate official announcement.
The connection to the Hope Assembles crossover
The event follows the announcement of Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, a Marvel comic crossover written by Kevin Smith and planned to launch in January 2027. Lucasfilm describes a story involving recognizable heroes from both franchises and antagonists including Darth Vader and Doctor Doom. Smith appeared during a Marvel panel at NYCC when the LEGO challenge was introduced.
That shared promotional context matters, but participation in LEGO Ideas is not the same as publishing one's own canon crossover comic. Fans are making interpretations with physical building elements, within a defined contest framework. Neither the contest nor its promotional illustrations should be used as evidence that the imagined vehicles or encounters have entered the established Star Wars fictional chronology.
Why it matters for collectors and builders
The three themes reward different skills. A vehicle design depends on recognizable shape and mechanical constraints, while a scene composition emphasizes posing, architecture and storytelling. LEGO's standardized pieces limit some forms of detail but offer a common construction language that can be shared, studied and revised by people using the same system.
Collectors looking for a new retail Star Wars/Marvel crossover set should not mistake this competition for a product reveal. Builders, however, have a dated event they can participate in now. The next known milestone is the December 15 voting opening, followed by the 2027 prize announcements.
