Political authority changes violently

In 44 ABY, the Galactic Alliance under Natasi Daala confronted widespread unrest, including violent responses to slave uprisings. A Jedi-led political intervention removed Daala from office, ending the rule that had been justified partly through the earlier Caedus crisis.

The Sith reappear in organized form

The Lost Tribe of Sith, descended from ancient exiles on Kesh, sought influence in the wider galaxy. Its members became entangled with Abeloth, a powerful and dangerous dark-side entity that could manipulate identities and political institutions.

A battle for the capital and its institutions

Abeloth used the political identity of Chief of State Rokari Kem and exploited the Senate. The Jedi and their allies fought to remove the entity and the Tribe's forces from Coruscant. The conflict involved more than a straightforward battle between armies because adversaries acted through possession, deception and legitimate-seeming offices.

Anthropological assessment

The crisis reveals the weakness of assuming that visible officeholders necessarily control the actions of institutions. The Sith exploited state procedures and religious identities, making a battle over public knowledge inseparable from the struggle for political power.

Interactive history lab

Was Abeloth simply another elected senator without supernatural powers?

No. In Legends, Abeloth was a powerful dark-side entity capable of manipulation and possession.
