THE REVANITE CONSPIRACY
Documented history and uncertainties
In 3637 BBY adherents of the Order of Revan infiltrated both the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. Their leader sought to provoke mass casualties that would draw Emperor Vitiate back into a destructible physical form. Sith Lord Lana Beniko and Republic spy Theron Shan identified the shared threat and organized cross-faction cooperation, with operations continuing through Rishi to Yavin 4. This conspiracy is the political background to the 3637 battle on Yavin 4 rather than another name for the 3636 destruction of Ziost.
Anthropological analysis
A historical figure's name became the basis of a militant identity that crossed normal faction boundaries. The Revanites treated other people's deaths as instruments for an alleged higher aim, showing how charismatic authority can detach an organization's claims from the interests of ordinary members of society. Intelligence cooperation across rival states was possible because the threat was shared, not because the Republic and Sith ceased to disagree.
Compare evidence and later interpretation
Separate the event dated 3637 BBY from its later political and biographical consequences. Exact dates, casualty figures and personal motives are not inferred when the surviving records do not provide them.

Anthropological assessment
Cross-faction conspiracies exploit institutions by using each side's assumptions about the other. Cooperation begins when actors recognize that their normal rivalry is being manipulated.

A cross-border conspiracy is not a treaty between enemy governments
The Revanite crisis exposes a clandestine movement operating inside two governments that have different public laws and military objectives. Lana Beniko and Theron Shan uncover evidence that Sith and Republic officials have been cooperating with people outside their normal chains of command. The Order of Revan aims to force the hidden Sith Emperor to become vulnerable. Its intention to manipulate large-scale destruction distinguishes the movement from an official peace negotiation or a publicly recognized joint expedition between Republic and Imperial leaders.
An intelligence investigation must first determine which actions came from ordinary government offices and which served a private faction. This is difficult when the organization’s recruits already possess titles and security access. The developers' storyline and the promotional materials for Shadow of Revan locate the plot across Rishi and Yavin 4. Defeating the Revanites’ immediate military design does not produce proof that the Emperor’s future threat has ended. The devastating later events on Ziost belong to a subsequent stage of the story, not a second name for the same confrontation.
IDS treats the case as institutional boundary crossing, with covert authority borrowing legitimacy from established positions. A prominent historical name is used to mobilize followers but does not automatically make every follower an agent of Revan’s earlier Jedi allies. The Makeb crisis illustrates different states seeking separate goals, while Marr’s later pursuit shows the operational risk of searching for the threat the conspiracy failed to destroy.
Historical source test: Were the Revanites an officially authorized Republic–Sith diplomatic partnership?
Explanation: No. They formed a clandestine movement whose agents worked across both governments. The cooperation of Lana and Theron to investigate it was different.
