At Sessal Spire, Dreypa revealed that his retreat had led to a buried arsenal. Using an amulet, he awakened Leviathans, powerful Sithspawn that fed on the life energy of their victims. The creatures destroyed nearly all the forces confronting him, including soldiers loyal to Iliana Hilts and the Doomed who attempted to intervene. Their leader Kaliska survived long enough to disclose the existence of a hidden Jedi starship beneath Tahv. Her warning gave the survivors a final chance to prevent Dreypa's return to the wider galaxy.
What happened
- Stage 1The pursuers close in at Sessal Spire.
- Stage 2Dreypa unleashes Leviathans that ravage the assembled forces.
- Stage 3Kaliska reveals the hidden starship as the next danger.
Dreypa's reserve weapon
The Leviathans were not animals accidentally encountered in the wild. They were ancient dark-side creations associated with Dreypa and capable of consuming victims' life energy. Their long dormancy made the volcano a concealed weapon site rather than a mere geographic barrier.
This is why Dreypa's apparent retreat toward a volcanic dead end proved deceptive. He had created or preserved an option that the contemporary Sith had not anticipated.
A disaster for every faction nearby
The creatures attacked the force loyal to Iliana and much of Dreypa's own following. The Doomed attempted to stop the creatures, but their long guardianship of Kesh ended in catastrophic losses. The conflict was not a simple Sith-versus-Jedi battle; multiple communities with different goals were drawn into it.
Iliana survived but suffered the effects of the creatures' life-draining attacks. Spinner, Takara, and Kaliska became critical as the field armies ceased to be the decisive actors.
The collapse of the Doomed
The Doomed had preserved the memory of the Great Calamity, watched other populations, and guarded Dreypa's imprisonment for millennia. Their destruction meant the loss of an institution whose knowledge was not duplicated by the Lost Tribe.
Kaliska's final efforts concerned more than defeating an individual enemy. She wanted to prevent the escape of an ancient Sith Lord with ambitions of renewed war. Her information redirected the survivors toward the old Jedi ship beneath Tahv.
A new objective: the hidden Last Hope
The starship Last Hope had survived since the ancient conflict that brought earlier Force-users to Kesh. It possessed technology far beyond the immediate resources of the isolated Lost Tribe. If Dreypa obtained the ship, he could depart the planet and threaten the wider galaxy.
Spinner now faced a choice between satisfying his own family's long-held desire to return to the stars and stopping a threat whose release he had helped cause.

Source comparison and historical limits
The awakening of Dreypa's Leviathans changes the conflict because his summoned weapons threaten both sides. The creatures are not ordinary troops under stable command, and later outcomes should not be projected backward into the moment they appeared.
Comic issue and illustration provenance
John Jackson Miller's five-part Dark Horse story Lost Tribe of the Sith — Spiral follows the 2975 BBY novella Pandemonium. Comic issue covers are works of published illustration and are not necessarily exact reproductions of the events summarized here. Original panels and issue credits are stronger evidence for a specific moment than cover association alone. The issue-level depiction and external image rights still require verification.

Anthropological assessment
Sessal Spire shows how weapons can remain politically consequential across eras long after the institutions that made them disappear. The death of the Doomed also represents the destruction of a historical archive held in living communities rather than written records alone.
This approach treats the characters as people acting inside institutions with unequal access to knowledge, resources, and authority. The event has a documented fictional chronology, while its broader social significance is an IDS interpretation.
