The first encounter on Eshkrene quickly became violent. After Spinner and Takara tried to escape the ship's control, Captain Chegg and members of the Alanciari crew pursued them. Doomed archers intervened and killed Chegg and several crew members. The Doomed then detained the survivors. Their leader, Kaliska, belonged to a community determined to keep the wider world away from an ancient danger imprisoned on the frozen continent.
What happened
- Stage 1Spinner and Takara attempt to leave the ship's authority.
- Stage 2Chegg's crew pursues them; the Doomed intervene.
- Stage 3The survivors are taken into Doomed custody.
A maritime chain of command breaks down
Tensions aboard Southern Star arose from rank, punishment, and Takara's concealed presence. Chegg did not accept the two Human Sith as masters of his vessel. After arrival, Spinner and Takara tried to escape the ship's working order, and the pursuit escalated.
The episode differs from a conventional contest between an invading army and a defending civilization. Most of the immediate violence stemmed from the crew's internal dispute, occurring in territory where a third party had its own security priorities.
The Doomed are neither local Sith nor simple hermits
The Doomed were descendants of Jedi and Dark Jedi who had reached Kesh long before Omen. Their ancestors had helped unleash the destructive conflict remembered as the Great Calamity. Later, they built an isolated settlement and committed themselves to guarding the planet against the return of a specific ancient danger.
Their Force abilities, cultural memory, and isolation policy separated them from both Keshtah's Sith and Alanciar's Keshiri society. They had monitored developments elsewhere on Kesh, but they did not want open contact.
Chegg and the sailors pay the cost
Chegg and several members of his crew were killed in the incident. The remaining expedition members were taken into custody, and Southern Star was seized. It would be misleading to describe the Doomed merely as friendly guides who revealed forgotten history.
For the crew, this was a lethal encounter. For the Doomed, it was a security intervention designed to prevent unwanted knowledge from leaving their territory.
Kaliska introduces a different history
Kaliska's explanations connected Eshkrene to the ancient arrival of the Jedi and Dark Jedi, the Great Calamity, and the stasis device holding Remulus Dreypa. Those accounts contradicted the Tribe's narrower belief that its own founders were the central figures in the planet's relationship with outsiders.
The prisoners now possessed knowledge that could transform Kesh, whether or not they understood what responsibility that knowledge imposed.

Source comparison and historical limits
The encounter with the Doomed follows the Southern Star's expedition to a region the Lost Tribe had not explored. It exposes the continued survival of a group with a distinct history and force tradition, rather than proving that every native Keshiri lived under the same Sith authority.
Comic issue and illustration provenance
John Jackson Miller's five-part Dark Horse story Lost Tribe of the Sith — Spiral follows the 2975 BBY novella Pandemonium. Comic issue covers are works of published illustration and are not necessarily exact reproductions of the events summarized here. Original panels and issue credits are stronger evidence for a specific moment than cover association alone. The issue-level depiction and external image rights still require verification.

Anthropological assessment
The Doomed's isolation shows that contact is not always desired by communities being visited. Their response mixed protective aims with lethal coercion. The episode also reveals how different historical memories can coexist on the same planet without sharing a common account of its past.
This approach treats the characters as people acting inside institutions with unequal access to knowledge, resources, and authority. The event has a documented fictional chronology, while its broader social significance is an IDS interpretation.
