Darth Bandon begins as a Jedi student and becomes the apprentice of Darth Malak. From the Endar Spire to his final pursuit of Revan, he represents a Sith hierarchy built on ambition, violence, and the expectation that a successful pupil may one day overthrow the teacher.

Encounter chronology

Bandon appears aboard the Endar Spire and kills Trask Ulgo. Later, Malak sends him against the Ebon Hawk crew following Calo Nord's defeat. The planet where the party defeats him depends on its Star Map route.

Biography

Before joining the Sith, Bandon trained within the Jedi Order. He rejected the restraints of Jedi teaching and followed his anger and ambition to the Sith Academy on Korriban. There he adopted the dark side and became an unusually ruthless student. His strength with the Force attracted the attention of Malak, who wanted a capable lieutenant as his own authority grew.

After Malak betrayed Revan and claimed the position of Dark Lord of the Sith, Bandon became his chosen apprentice and Shadow Hand. The arrangement gave him a high place in the Sith war effort but also established a rivalry waiting to happen. Sith teaching praised the strong enough to replace their masters. Bandon's growing reputation as a killer of Jedi made the possibility of a future challenge part of his standing within the hierarchy.

The player first encounters Bandon aboard the Endar Spire, where he kills Trask Ulgo as Trask delays him long enough for the amnesiac Revan to escape. Later, after Calo Nord fails to capture Revan and Bastila Shan, Malak sends Bandon to continue the hunt. His final encounter happens on a Star Map world chosen by the player's route rather than in one fixed location.

Relationships & belonging

Darth Malak is Bandon's teacher and patron. By choosing him over other Sith students, Malak grants the young fighter rank, access to further instruction, and the authority to command other dark-side warriors. But this kind of apprenticeship contains its own threat. The pupil is encouraged to become powerful enough to supersede his teacher, while the teacher must remain alert to betrayal.

Trask Ulgo is a Republic soldier who gives his life to hold Bandon back aboard the Endar Spire. Trask's role is brief, but the encounter establishes a contrast between two kinds of obligation: a soldier risking his life to protect a companion, and a Sith apprentice advancing through violence in the service of personal and institutional ambition.

Revan becomes Bandon's target after the failure of Calo Nord. Bandon approaches the encounter with confidence shaped by his reputation for defeating Jedi. The player may recognize him from the Endar Spire, creating a continuous conflict between the first minutes of the game and a later stage of the Star Map journey.

Identity & social position

Bandon is a human Sith Lord. His dark armor, red lightsaber, and aggressive fighting style communicate membership in Malak's Sith organization. He is not a masked ancient Sith ruler or a generic dark-side soldier. His distinguishing position is that of Malak's personally selected apprentice during the Jedi Civil War.

The title Shadow Hand identifies his proximity to the ruler. He has authority unavailable to most Sith students, but that position relies on Malak's continuing preference for him and on the threat he can demonstrate against rivals. Advancement in such an order is neither a routine professional promotion nor a stable guarantee of belonging.

His former Jedi training matters because his transition to Sith service moves knowledge from one religious and military tradition into another. Rather than suggesting Jedi and Sith are identical, the story shows how one individual can reuse learned skills for violently opposed commitments.

Institutions & power

The Sith Academy on Korriban is central to Bandon's rise. It gathers students who compete for training, recognition, and power. Bandon's advancement demonstrates how institutional incentives can favor individuals especially willing to use violence. His identity as an apprentice is therefore inseparable from the system that selected and rewarded him.

Malak's military campaigns combine Sith Force-users with conventional troops and fleets. Bandon occupies the small elite whose activities serve the ruler's larger goals. Killing Jedi and pursuing valuable fugitives do not replace military administration, but they can protect the Sith regime from rivals whose survival threatens its legitimacy.

His rank also reveals a contradiction. Sith authority claims to belong to the strongest, yet every ruler must train or employ ambitious people who could become challengers. The same institution that empowers Bandon makes his possible disloyalty a predictable feature rather than an unexpected accident.

Beliefs & worldview

Bandon embraces a version of Sith teaching that treats anger, hatred, and ruthless ambition as sources of power. His confidence is not merely boastfulness. It reflects a worldview in which victory in combat can be taken as proof of worth and superior authority.

He rejects the Jedi expectation that great power should be restrained by obligations to others. The narrative gives little evidence of personal tenderness or a stable community outside Sith training. His most important relationships are organized around who can command, serve, threaten, or defeat whom.

His underestimation of Revan matters because a ranking built on former victories cannot guarantee the next one. At the final confrontation he expects a result based on his status and reputation. The encounter shows the limit of assuming that violence already committed establishes permanent superiority.

Material life

Bandon's armor and red lightsaber make his status visible. These are the tools of a Sith combatant who confronts enemies directly rather than commanding a fleet from a bridge. In game scenes he travels with other dark Jedi whose weapons and training reinforce his connection to Malak's inner circle.

The Endar Spire is the first location where the player sees the effects of his power. Its damaged corridors, armed troops, and emergency evacuation turn an abstract Sith attack into an immediate experience. Trask's defense occurs in a space shaped by boarding action and the collapse of a ship's protections.

Bandon's later pursuit depends on interplanetary routes and knowledge of the Star Map search. He cannot reach the crew by Force power alone. Transport and information are necessary to turn Malak's orders into an encounter on the player's chosen world.

Historical significance

Bandon provides a direct personal link between the game's opening attack and Malak's later response to the Star Map campaign. His role gives the Jedi Civil War an antagonist whose activity occurs below the level of the ruling Sith Lord but above that of ordinary soldiers.

The order of the Star Map planets affects the site of his final defeat. Some published accounts describe Manaan and the Hrakert Station, following a particular strategy-guide sequence. Others who play the game may encounter him elsewhere. An accurate dossier preserves this conditional geography.

Later Star Wars: The Old Republic lore includes a curious story of Sith followers preserving Bandon's head and attributing guidance to it. That episode belongs to later Legends continuity and should not be confused with events directly shown in the 2003 game.

Anthropological assessment

Bandon's career illustrates how an institution can convert personal grievance and ambition into an authorized political role. The Sith Academy does not merely accept his anger. It rewards conduct that advances the institution's conflict with the Jedi and makes him visible to a potential patron.

His apprenticeship also exposes the instability of succession through strength. If authority depends on the right to overthrow an allegedly weaker leader, the ruler can never fully separate educating a successor from creating a possible rival. Bandon's status is prestigious and precarious for the same reason.

The Endar Spire confrontation gives this structure a personal cost. Trask's death is not an impersonal consequence of ideological competition. A soldier dies protecting another person, while Bandon's act contributes to a reputation the Sith reward. Those competing meanings of the same event reveal different moral expectations of organized groups.
