Battlefront 3 Reported as Respawn and DICE Project, but EA Has Not Announced Its Title
Variety identifies a new Star Wars: Battlefront game behind an EA studio collaboration. Electronic Arts has publicly confirmed the collaboration, not the title.

Quick read: On October 22, Variety reported that Respawn and DICE are teaming up on Battlefront 3. EA officially confirmed an unnamed joint project; neither the new game's title nor its release details are confirmed by EA.
What Electronic Arts actually said
Electronic Arts disclosed a broader reorganization of its game studios in an October 2026 memo covered by Variety. In the shooter division, company leaders said Respawn Entertainment and DICE would collaborate on an unspecified future project. They did not use the words Star Wars: Battlefront 3 in the quoted announcement. No official launch window, gameplay footage, supported platforms or product page accompanied that statement.
Variety separately reported, citing multiple sources, that the collaboration is intended to produce Star Wars: Battlefront 3 for Lucasfilm. That is a significant report from an established entertainment trade publication, but it remains different from an announcement made directly by EA or Lucasfilm. IDS is classifying the story as Development Watch for precisely that reason.
Why Respawn and DICE would matter to a new Battlefront
DICE developed the 2015 Star Wars Battlefront and the 2017 Star Wars Battlefront II. Those games established the modern large-scale multiplayer shooter branch of the franchise, with battles across several film eras and, in Battlefront II, a story campaign centered on Iden Versio. Respawn is associated with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, which approach the same galaxy through character-focused action and exploration.
Combining teams with those backgrounds could produce different design possibilities, but neither a combined campaign nor a particular multiplayer feature has been confirmed. The role of either studio on the project remains undisclosed. The existing Battlefront II should not be mistaken for the purported sequel simply because its promotional imagery illustrates current coverage.
The surrounding EA restructuring
Variety's account placed the proposed collaboration alongside layoffs, the closure of BioWare and continued EA support for the next Star Wars Jedi title. These company-level decisions may affect staffing and schedules. They do not establish that Battlefront 3 has reached a particular development milestone or that any earlier project has been revived.
IDS will update this report when an official product title, development team, release date or gameplay material becomes available. Until then, claims about modes, maps, characters, preorder availability or a specific launch year should be treated as unsupported.
