Rey's New Jedi Order Film Appears Active Again, but the Timeline Is Still Unclear

A newly updated industry production listing puts the Daisy Ridley project in pre-production. Lucasfilm has not paired that listing with a new release date or shooting announcement, so IDS is treating it as a development signal rather than a confirmed production start.

Quick read: A September 21 industry listing describes the Rey-led New Jedi Order project as being in pre-production with Daisy Ridley and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached. The listing gives no shoot date.

The new signal

The Film & Television Industry Alliance's Production List updated its entry for the Rey-led Star Wars project on September 21, 2026 and currently labels it as being in pre-production. It lists Daisy Ridley, director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Lucasfilm, Pinewood Studios, and The Walt Disney Studios, while leaving the shoot date as TBA.

That is more specific than the long period in which the project mainly existed through public statements and development reporting. It is still not equivalent to an official Lucasfilm production announcement. Industry listings can reflect planning activity before cameras are guaranteed to roll.

Lucasfilm's own 2025 Star Wars Celebration announcement for Starfighter described Obaid-Chinoy's project as one of several theatrical films still in development. Daisy Ridley said in early 2026 that fans were unlikely to receive meaningful news about the Rey film before 2027. The new listing therefore deserves attention because it suggests continued activity, but the public timetable remains unsettled.

What the film is expected to address

The project has been publicly associated with Rey's attempt to rebuild the Jedi after The Rise of Skywalker. That premise gives Lucasfilm an opportunity to define what a Jedi institution looks like after repeated collapse: first the fall of the prequel-era Order, then Luke Skywalker's failed school, and finally the defeat of the First Order and the Sith Eternal.

The most important unanswered production questions are still basic ones. Lucasfilm has not announced a release date, supporting cast, or start of principal photography for this film in the sources reviewed by IDS. Until those appear, the safest description is active development or pre-production watch.
