Quick read: Forbes cites production-company filings showing $226.5 million in Starfighter spending through January 31, 2026. These are interim figures and not the film's complete production or marketing budget.

What the newly reported figure measures

Forbes contributor Caroline Reid reported on October 22 that financial statements for Blue Mist Productions (UK), the company used for Star Wars: Starfighter, showed $226.5 million (£164.9 million) in spending from the start of production through January 31, 2026. The filings cover a defined accounting period shortly after principal photography finished in December 2025. They should not be described as the final lifetime cost of a film scheduled for theatrical release in May 2027.

The report also lists a U.K. Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit of about $51.5 million (£37.5 million), bringing the reported net amount at that point to roughly $175 million. The credit is a production incentive, not box-office revenue or a guarantee of eventual profit. Figures may rise as editing, visual effects and finishing work continue.

The role of British production accounting

Starfighter filmed at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom and used locations in Sardinia, Italy. Companies producing qualifying films in Britain file accounts tied to that activity and can apply for incentives on eligible costs. Forbes identified the relevant production company and compared its spending at a similar stage with other Star Wars films made in the United Kingdom.

Those comparisons require care. Spending booked shortly after principal photography does not include all later costs, and different films may account for post-production at different times. Currency conversion and incentive treatment also affect headline numbers. An early cost figure is evidence of significant investment, but it does not measure a finished film's profitability.

What is confirmed about the film

Star Wars: Starfighter is directed by Shawn Levy and stars Ryan Gosling, with Flynn Gray, Amy Adams, Matt Smith and Mia Goth among the named cast. Lucasfilm has scheduled the movie for May 28, 2027. Its story takes place several years after The Rise of Skywalker, outside the main Skywalker family narrative.

The financial report does not add new confirmed plot details or imply anything about the finished film's quality. Box-office performance cannot be evaluated until the release and subsequent revenues are known. IDS will keep production spending, release information and eventual earnings as separate records.
