Star Wars: Starfighter Sets May 28, 2027 for Kade Auberon's New Adventure
Lucasfilm used D23 to give Shawn Levy's Starfighter a clearer identity: Ryan Gosling plays Kade Auberon, the film arrives May 28, 2027, and its story occupies a period after The Rise of Skywalker that has barely been explored on screen.

Quick read: Star Wars: Starfighter is officially set for May 28, 2027. Ryan Gosling plays Kade Auberon in an original standalone story directed by Shawn Levy.
The official update
At D23, Lucasfilm confirmed the name of Ryan Gosling's character, Kade Auberon, and restated the film's May 28, 2027 theatrical release. The project is directed by Shawn Levy from a script by Jonathan Tropper.
Lucasfilm describes Kade as a cynical rogue whose mysterious past pulls him into an adventure across the galaxy. Gosling characterized him as someone from the wrong side of the galaxy whose fate becomes tied to an exceptionally fast starfighter.
The film is a standalone story set after The Rise of Skywalker in a period Lucasfilm has not previously explored in detail on screen. That places it close enough to the sequel era to inherit its political aftermath without making the movie a direct continuation of Rey's story.
Why the setting is notable
The post-sequel galaxy remains unusually undefined compared with the Clone Wars, Imperial era, or New Republic period. Starfighter can establish what mobility, law, class, military power, and regional authority look like when the First Order and Sith Eternal have been defeated but a new stable order has not yet been fully described.
Because the film is built around an original character rather than a legacy lead, it also gives Lucasfilm space to introduce everyday institutions and social worlds without immediately centering the Skywalker family.
