More than half a million Republic soldiers perish in one of the greatest Sith victories of the New Sith Wars.

A massive Republic defeat

In 1466 BBY a Republic force containing at least half a million troops and hundreds of Jedi confronted a large New Sith army at Mizra. Sith combatants included many Dark Lords using repulsorlift vehicles. The Republic suffered a catastrophic defeat, with more than half a million soldiers killed and hundreds of Jedi captured.

The collapse of coordination

A Jedi coordinator used battle meditation in support of Republic forces. During the retreat a Sith sniper killed the coordinator, disrupting the defense and contributing to a rout. These details demonstrate the importance of leadership and collective coordination when battlefield movements depend on a shared command structure.

Captured Jedi and the Sith cause

Accounts state that hundreds of captured Jedi turned to the dark side after Mizra. The victory also weakened Republic confidence and helped secure Sith territorial gains. The battle became the subject of poetry, including an account attributed to Felloux. Its subsequent commemoration turned military devastation into cultural memory.

Anthropological assessment

Mizra illustrates how political catastrophe can become an enduring story through art, military scholarship and institutional crisis. Casualty totals, conversions and narrative traditions need to be clearly attributed to the published Legends account rather than presented as independent modern measurements.

Mizra: the catastrophic New Sith victory

Source-grounded account

At Mizra the New Sith overwhelmed a vast Republic and Jedi army. Legends historical sources report more than half a million Republic dead and hundreds of Jedi captured. A Jedi coordinator was killed during the retreat while using battle meditation, compounding a disastrous collapse. The surrounding account is a later military history, not a transcript of every battlefield order.

Anthropological interpretation

The destruction of command capacity can turn a retreat into a rout. Mizra also shows why mass casualties and captivity shape the legitimacy of military institutions. Reported numbers should be attributed to the source and not enlarged; a painting of the later Battle of Ruusan does not depict Mizra.

Source and image accuracy

These Legends events derive from original novels, games, comics or historical reference works. The existing bibliography retains the original evidence trail. Details not recorded, such as unpublished casualties, dialogue and exact dates, remain unknown. This infographic is editorial interpretation.
