Several battles unfold together

The liberation plan relied on Gungan troops holding the droid army on the plains, Naboo fighters attacking the orbital control ship, and Padmé's party entering Theed Palace to confront Nute Gunray.

The droid control network fails

Anakin Skywalker entered a Naboo N-1 starfighter and reached the Federation control ship. Its destruction caused the battle droids to shut down, ending the field battle and helping preserve Gungan lives.

The Sith emerge

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan confronted Darth Maul. Qui-Gon died, and Obi-Wan defeated Maul. The Republic learned that the Sith were active again, although the figure directing Maul remained hidden.

Anthropological assessment

The victory was achieved by combined political and military action rather than a single hero. Recognizing the Gungan contribution keeps indigenous agency visible in a history often told from the perspective of Jedi or Naboo royalty.

Canon chronology / societies and power

Three operations combine to end the Trade Federation occupation

The Battle of Naboo depended on several groups making separate efforts at the same time. The Gungan Grand Army confronted the Trade Federation's battle droids on the grass plains, drawing major ground forces away from Theed. Naboo N-1 starfighters attempted to destroy the orbital Droid Control Ship that coordinated the mechanized occupation. Queen Amidala and her companions entered the palace to confront Nute Gunray and regain control of the government. None of these operations by itself guaranteed success. The plan relied on a coalition created only after the Naboo and Gungans had overcome long-standing mistrust.

Anakin Skywalker became involved in the starfighter battle and destroyed the control ship, disabling the droid army. The palace group captured Gunray, while Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi fought Darth Maul. Qui-Gon died during the duel, and Obi-Wan defeated Maul. The victory ended the occupation and confirmed to the Jedi that a Sith warrior had returned, though the concealed ruler directing events remained unidentified. The same battle thus resolved a planetary crisis while opening a larger question about the Republic's political future.

Different communities contributed different kinds of power

The Gungans possessed organized ground forces, the Naboo supplied spacecraft and knowledge of the palace, and the Jedi pursued a Sith threat inside the battle. Victory was not the product of a single culture or individual acting alone. The relationship among these capacities deserves as much attention as the exploits of the most famous participants.

Infrastructure makes an army vulnerable

The Droid Control Ship centralized command over many Federation battle droids. Its destruction disabled the ground force even while many individual machines remained physically present. The event illustrates the military consequences of depending on a centralized technical network.

Did the defeat of the droids also establish who Darth Maul served?

No. The Jedi recognized the return of the Sith, but the identity and complete plan of Maul's hidden master remained unknown to them.

The liberation of Naboo: evidence and political anthropology

Documented chronology and participants

Naboo's liberation required three distinct operations: Gungans confronted the Trade Federation's droid army, Royal Space Fighter Corps pilots attacked the orbital control ship, and Padmé's group infiltrated Theed Palace to capture Nute Gunray. Anakin's unexpected action aboard an N-1 fighter helped destroy the droid control ship. The duel against Darth Maul was significant but was only one part of the larger campaign.

Institutions, identities and material life

A victory is not the accomplishment of a single hero. Gungan soldiers accepted substantial battlefield danger, pilots worked through the orbital blockade, and Padmé's team targeted political command. Examining these groups separately restores the labor and sacrifice that a portrait of one combatant can conceal.
