In 3712 BBY, Darth Ikoral departed the hidden Sith Empire aboard the Red Reaper. His objective was to locate Sith Pureblood communities that had survived outside the Empire and bring them back into what he considered a purified Sith future.

IKORAL'S RED REAPER VOYAGE
What the sources establish
Around 3712 BBY, Darth Ikoral persuaded the Dark Council to authorize his expedition aboard the Red Reaper to locate Sith Pureblood communities left outside Vitiate's hidden Empire after the Great Hyperspace War. Ikoral's belief in supposedly superior unadmixed bloodlines was political ideology, not a validated biological hierarchy. The fleet carried his adherents and disappeared from regular Imperial knowledge for approximately seventy years. Ikoral's later return, assaults upon both Imperial and Republic populations and final defeat belong to the 3640s BBY and should not be moved into his departure-year entry. The name Red Reaper refers to the flagship, not a public Republic naval operation.
Institutions, identity and social consequences
An expedition ostensibly searching for lost kin became a project to define who could legitimately belong to a state. Ikoral treated ancestry as a criterion for authority, turning diversity inside the Sith Empire into a target of coercion. The Dark Council's initial support suggests these prejudices were embedded in Imperial institutions despite later political changes. His disappearance and subsequent celebration as a martyr also show how public memory can reward a mission without knowledge of its actual outcomes.

Purity as political program
Ikoral's search treated ancestry as a resource for rebuilding Sith society.
His mission reflected conflict inside the Empire over species, legitimacy, and the meaning of Sith identity.
Anthropological assessment
Projects of ethnic or genealogical purity transform descent into political infrastructure.
They also create hierarchies that can conflict with more inclusive imperial strategies.

An expedition to find lost Sith becomes a program of exclusion
The official Red Reaper account says Darth Ikoral persuaded the Dark Council to approve a search for Sith Pureblood communities separated from the Empire long before its return to Republic space. His expedition left with an armed fleet. Ikoral interpreted ancestry as proof of rightful political and religious standing, not merely as a matter of family history. This distinction matters: the source describes a militant supremacist ideology espoused by a particular Sith Lord, not a valid biological theory about moral worth or governance.
The HoloNet reports that Ikoral returned about seventy years later with forces committed to purging people he considered unworthy, attacking an Imperial outpost before threatening Republic-controlled Chandrila. These later actions show that the initial authorization did not guarantee permanent agreement between Ikoral and the Dark Council. They must not be moved backward into the c. 3712 BBY departure. The official description confirms a decades-long interval but does not supply a complete shipboard log, the name of every contacted population or evidence that all Pureblood Sith supported his conclusions.
An IDS reading treats the expedition as an attempt to make a political boundary appear natural by defining citizenship and legitimate power through bloodline. The use of a warship and a Council mandate reveals how institutions could enable that ideology, even if the relationship later broke down. Vowrawn’s later administrative career illustrates different mechanisms by which Sith authority could be maintained, while Marr’s later military career offers another contrast with Ikoral’s search for supposedly pure descent.
Historical evidence check: Does the Council’s authorization mean it supported Ikoral’s later campaign against its own worlds?
Evidence and correction: No. The official account identifies his later attacks on Imperial interests and efforts by both governments to stop him. Initial approval did not guarantee permanent political loyalty.
