Dorian Janarus elected Chancellor
Evidence, timing and source limits
In 3649 BBY Dorian Janarus became Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic during the politically strained Cold War period. The Republic was recovering from the wartime destruction of infrastructure and the concessionary Treaty of Coruscant. Janarus's tenure would include conflicts with Senator Leontyne Saresh and other leaders over strategy, rebuilding and relations with the Empire. His later loss of office and the outbreak of renewed war are different moments from the original election.
Anthropological interpretation
Elections after a costly treaty are struggles over competing interpretations of security and reconstruction. A chancellor must coordinate institutions that do not necessarily agree about military spending, frontier defense or aid to abandoned worlds. The existence of an elected leader does not erase the social consequences of armed rivalry. Janarus's case brings Republican constitutional authority into the timeline as a contrast to Sith Dark Council appointment and coercion.
How to separate evidence from later interpretation
The event is conventionally situated in 3649 BBY, within the Great Galactic War or Cold War. Some archival sources offer only an approximate year or a retrospective account. Check whether a claim describes the contemporary public view, a later discovery or the historian's interpretation before treating them as equivalent.
