An alliance and a family divided

By 41 ABY Jacen Solo, ruling as Darth Caedus, had further expanded military and police control. Political opponents and former allies were treated as threats. The government fractured, and the war drew in surviving Imperial forces and other factions with conflicting strategic aims.

A twin prepares to fight

Jaina Solo trained to defeat her brother, turning to Mandalorian combat methods and recognizing that their shared history could not make him harmless. Her mission was shaped by the possibility that no peaceful settlement would stop his coercion.

The final duel

Jaina confronted Caedus aboard the Star Destroyer Anakin Solo and killed him. The event helped end the civil war, but it also deepened the devastation of the Solo family. Natasi Daala subsequently became Galactic Alliance Chief of State.

Anthropological assessment

The climax shows how civil wars divide families along institutional lines. Jaina's act ended one danger but did not make the suffering of the divided community disappear or settle every argument about the use of force.

Original-source evidence and uncertainty

Troy Denning's Invincible is the final Legacy of the Force novel. The publisher identifies the climactic conflict involving Darth Caedus, formerly Jacen Solo. This article previously illustrated that final confrontation with a retailer-hosted cover of Betrayal, the first book of the series. It now uses the cover of Invincible itself. The publisher's synopsis supports the identity of the climactic novel; the precise events and sequence of Jaina's duel require direct reference to its text. Do not confuse this 41 ABY Legends history with Jacen or Jaina's separate appearance in Canon.
