Imperial suspicion reaches the antique shop

Dedra Meero and the ISB traced rebel operations to Luthen's Coruscant antiquities business. For years the shop had been both an outwardly respectable workplace and a center of covert communications, making its exposure a danger to many people.

Luthen refuses to be interrogated

Facing capture, Luthen gravely wounded himself rather than risk revealing names and operations under torture. Imperial authorities moved to keep him alive and obtain information. The regime sought to turn his body into a source of intelligence against the movement he had helped create.

Kleya's last responsibility

Kleya Marki reached him while he lay incapacitated and ended his life to prevent extraction of information. She then worked to escape Coruscant and deliver intelligence on the Death Star to Cassian Andor and the wider Alliance.

Anthropological assessment

The end of Luthen's work demonstrates the severe private costs of clandestine political struggle. The movement depended on people whose identities were intentionally absent from public leadership accounts, and their risks often could not be commemorated openly.

Did Luthen return to lead the Alliance on Yavin after the ISB raid?

No. He died on Coruscant; Kleya and Cassian carried crucial intelligence onward.

Luthen's network is exposed

Documented historical sequence

Dedra Meero and the ISB traced Luthen Rael's clandestine operations to his Coruscant antiquities business. The shop had long served as a communications and logistics center for rebel intelligence. Luthen died amid the discovery; Kleya sought to preserve the information the network had gathered.

Institutions, identity and material life

The shop's apparently ordinary activity provided a cover for espionage. That infrastructure depended on delivery schedules, private meetings and trusted coworkers as much as dramatic missions. Its loss threatened multiple cells with exposure, making Kleya's survival and knowledge historically significant.

Why 1 BBY, rather than 0 BBY?

Recent Star Wars chronologies use the Battle of Yavin as the zero point. Rogue One and events immediately before that battle belong to 1 BBY rather than a separate 0 BBY year. The character or story illustration at the top provides context, not a photograph of the entire event.
