In 899 BBY, the Pact of Almera formally recognized the independence of Thyrsus from the Echani Command. Thyrsus had been in rebellion since the Begali Uprising of 1154 BBY. Its long struggle followed a different course from Begali, which had returned to the Echani confederation much earlier. The treaty ended an important phase of conflict within the Six Sisters.
A conflict inherited across generations
Thyrsians maintained political independence through repeated disputes and skirmishes with Echani authority. The dispute outlived the leaders who initiated the original revolt. Generations were born into a struggle whose foundational decision had been made centuries earlier.
The Sun Guard's martial reputation
Thyrsian special forces developed into the Sun Guard, combining distinctive armaments and military traditions. After recognition of independence, the organization eventually became known for services beyond the homeworld, including mercenary contracts and other paid fighting roles.
A treaty that formalized an existing condition
Thyrsus had already resisted Echani control. The Pact of Almera recognized that independence in a durable political form. Its significance lies in creating mutually acknowledged terms, not in proving that every prior conflict had been nonexistent.
Anthropological assessment
Treaties convert disputed claims into formal political relationships. The pact shows that cultural similarity does not guarantee political unity, and that independent institutions can develop during long struggles for sovereignty.

Did the Pact of Almera make Begali independent too?
No. It confirmed Thyrsus's independence. Begali had returned to Echani rule.

Historical sequence, material evidence and political authority
The Pact of Almera: the historical record
The Pact of Almera formalized Thyrsian independence from Echani Command after a struggle dating back to the Begali uprising. The treaty did not simply end a one-year war. It represented the culmination of a long separation process involving distinct worlds and their governing institutions.
Anthropological assessment
Political and martial traditions do not guarantee shared sovereignty. Thyrsian independence shows how populations with related cultural histories can claim separate political authority. The treaty's legal recognition should be distinguished from the years of de facto resistance preceding it.
