To create an opportunity to free Revan, Scourge informed the Sith Emperor that Darth Nyriss and other Councilors had plotted against him, while concealing his own participation. Vitiate's response exceeded Scourge's expectations. He summoned nine Councilors and killed them, while Imperial Guard units attacked the remaining conspirators and their households. Martial law and violence swept Kaas City.

DARK COUNCIL PURGED

Documented chronology and evidence limits

Lord Scourge informed Vitiate of Darth Nyriss's conspiracy while concealing his own involvement. He expected a narrower response that would let him and Meetra rescue Revan. Instead the Sith Emperor summoned nine Councilors to his chambers and killed them, including figures not part of the plot. The Imperial Guard simultaneously moved against three conspiratorial Councilors who had not appeared and destroyed their estates and power bases. The purge destabilized Kaas City and cleared a path for an attempted attack on the Emperor. The nine plus three describe a whole Council of twelve, not nine guilty conspirators.

Anthropology: institutions and everyday consequences

This was an extreme example of personal sovereignty overruling institutional safeguards. The Dark Council had administrative offices and ambitious rulers, but those titles supplied no durable protection when Vitiate determined to purge the organization. The killings also demonstrate that violent policing of imagined disloyalty can destroy loyal officials along with actual dissidents. Replacing administrators by terror gave the ruler a warning to future elites while destabilizing ordinary city life. Scourge's disclosure served one tactical purpose, yet its consequences escaped his control.

Loyalty offers no protection

Vitiate kills loyal and disloyal Councilors together.

The purge communicates that survival depends on the Emperor's will rather than provable conduct.

A security response becomes institutional replacement

The Dark Council survives as an office after its members die.

Vitiate later appoints a new set of leaders more supportive of war.

Anthropological assessment

The purge is a classic authoritarian strategy of institutional decapitation.

By making innocence irrelevant, a ruler can destroy autonomous elite networks and teach successors that office depends on personal obedience.

An Emperor eliminates his own administrators

Scourge's disclosure of Darth Nyriss's conspiracy provoked Vitiate into a broad purge of the Dark Council. The violence exceeded the people demonstrably involved and extended to others connected with the ruling elite. It occurred within the concealed Empire, not as a publicly documented Republic proceeding, and opened a moment of political disorder that conspirators hoped to exploit.

The purge shows why officeholding did not produce legal security under the Emperor. Survival depended on his judgment, not a stable test of individual culpability. Destroying Councilors did not destroy the need for military and administrative offices. Vitiate could appoint successors while making the replacement hierarchy more dependent on himself.

Were only proven conspirators killed after public trials?

No. The narrative presents extrajudicial violence extending to Councilors who had not joined the conspiracy.
