Chronology note: The year is well established, but separate plotlines in the same year may not have an exact relative order. Every page distinguishes published narrative facts from anthropological interpretation.
From isolated resistance to shared leadership
Before 2 BBY, multiple anti-Imperial groups had pursued different strategies and relied on limited coordination. Luthen Rael's secret network, the Ghost crew, Bail Organa's contacts, Saw Gerrera's partisans and others did not share a single political command. The Ghorman massacre made the need for a unified position more urgent.
Mon Mothma's public break
Mon's Senate condemnation gave the new movement an unmistakable political voice. Stories in Rebels and Andor show different parts of her departure from the Imperial public sphere, including efforts to move her safely among rebel ships and bases.
A declaration, not instant unanimity
The alliance's public birth did not end disagreement about strategy or force every independent fighter into the same organization. Saw's methods and his relationship to the Alliance remained contested. Coordination required continuing negotiations and trust among cells with different histories.
Anthropological assessment
A political alliance is a social achievement rather than only a founding speech. Shared symbols and leaders create a collective identity, but practical unity depends on finance, logistics, communications and the willingness to respect different communities.

Did every anti-Imperial group immediately join one command in 2 BBY?
No. The Rebel Alliance became publicly identifiable, while independent organizations and strategic disagreements persisted.

The Alliance becomes public
Historical sequence and evidence
Before Mon Mothma's public declaration, resistance existed in networks run by Bail Organa, Luthen Rael, the Ghost crew and many local organizers. After Ghorman, she became a visible rallying figure for coordinated opposition to the Empire. The process of unifying cells was political work, not proof that all groups instantly adopted identical tactics or that Luthen's clandestine organization was always the public Alliance.
Political authority and collective identities
A coalition is assembled from groups with histories, interests and degrees of trust that predate the union. Local networks and partisans could cooperate while disputing strategy, funding and attitudes toward civilian risk. The Alliance's public identity therefore marked a change in legitimacy and coordination rather than the invention of resistance from nothing.
Original narrative and source qualification
Andor season two and Rebels depict these events within 2 BBY. Their chronology is fictional and differs from the episodes' publication dates. The linked original source provides context and does not imply that promotional art depicts the complete event.
