The Empire's successor commits atrocities

Tam Ryvora became increasingly disillusioned with First Order service. She witnessed attacks on the people of Aeos Prime, who had helped the Colossus. The regime treated ordinary inhabitants as punishable for offering refuge and demanded obedience even when orders violated Tam's growing sense of responsibility.

A message reaches the old crew

Tam secretly contacted Kaz using a droid and her recovered communications device, asking to leave. Kaz and Jarek Yeager undertook a rescue at Castilon, where her former colleague Jace Rucklin refused to accept the betrayal as legitimate.

The Thunderer discovers the Colossus

Commander Pyre and Agent Tierny pursued the fugitives and obtained the refuge ship's location. The Colossus community and its fighter pilots then faced an attack by a much larger First Order warship. Civilians, mechanics and pilots all participated in efforts to resist boarding and preserve their home.

A costly final confrontation

Tam, Kaz, Yeager and CB-23 helped cripple the Star Destroyer, while the Colossus's Aces attacked its engines. Pyre was defeated and Tierny died when Kylo Ren punished her failure. The vessel was destroyed, ending that pursuit of the refugee platform.

Anthropological interpretation

Tam's return complicates fixed notions of traitor and loyalist. She had joined the First Order voluntarily but under manipulated expectations and then chose to reject its violence. The Colossus's survival relied on allowing someone who had made a serious mistake to help repair trust through action.
