A unit whose specialty was impossible missions
Wraith Squadron had a history of combining piloting, infiltration and intelligence work. After the Second Galactic Civil War, the unit was disbanded and veteran Garik 'Face' Loran left active leadership. In 44 ABY intelligence problems brought him back into an investigative role, drawing old members and new recruits into a mission that could not be handled through an ordinary public inquiry.
A senior military leader falls under suspicion
Galactic Alliance Security asked Loran to investigate General Stavin Thaal, a powerful officer suspected of corruption and disloyalty. The Wraiths organized separate teams and followed evidence while trying not to reveal their identities. Their operational history gave them unusual advantages but did not eliminate the danger of being recognized or betrayed.
A compromised source within the government
The operation became more dangerous when Loran discovered that the intelligence official who had helped initiate the investigation, Borath Maddeus, had also been supplying information to Thaal. This made the Wraiths vulnerable to attacks by people who knew their plans. An attempt on Loran's life failed, but the conspiracy threatened his family and former comrades.
Evidence defeats a powerful patronage network
The investigators gathered enough material to expose Thaal and Maddeus. Both were imprisoned for their actions. Loran's experience demonstrated that trusted officials could exercise authority on behalf of the government while secretly undermining the same institution.
A new responsibility follows the mission
After the revelations, Loran discussed the security failures with Chief of State Wynn Dorvan and took a senior position in Galactic Alliance Security. The unit's methods could not simply replace formal government, but its work showed why external scrutiny of military elites remained necessary.
Anthropological assessment
The Wraiths' operation examines corruption as a network of relationships rather than an isolated immoral choice. Status, information access and personal loyalty can shield wrongdoing, especially when investigators are dependent on the very officials they are asked to scrutinize.
Interactive ethics and evidence lab
Was Stavin Thaal exposed by an ordinary public starfighter race?
No. His network was uncovered through a covert Wraith Squadron intelligence investigation.
