Sometime between 3943 and 3941 BBY, Balmorra moved its capital from Sobrik to Bin Prime. The change occurred on a world whose political importance was inseparable from enormous weapons and battle-droid industries. Bin Prime would remain Balmorra's capital through later eras.

BALMORRA MOVES ITS CAPITAL
Evidence, dates and historical boundaries
The capital of Balmorra moved from Sobrik to Bin Prime sometime between 3943 and 3941 BBY. The convenient date c. 3942 BBY is not a contemporary dated government decree: it is inferred from a later Star Wars: The Old Republic codex that says Bin Prime took over as capital approximately 300 years before the game. The date range arises because Republic and Imperial storylines on Balmorra take place in slightly different years. Later appearances of Bin Prime as an industrial fortress should not be assumed to describe its streets or institutions exactly as they looked in 3942.
Anthropological interpretation
Changing a capital redistributes access to officials, contracts, prestige and transport infrastructure. Balmorra already had substantial industrial interests, but its military-industrial importance cannot establish which factory owner or political faction drove the decision without further sources. Sobrik continued to exist after losing the office of capital. The case makes an important distinction between the geography of administrative authority and the location of a society's economic activity.
Trace the historical sequence
- Sobrik serves as Balmorra’s earlier capital
- A change of administrative center occurs c. 3942 BBY
- Bin Prime becomes recognized as planetary capital

A political center moves inside an industrial world
The capital shift did not change Balmorra's broader identity as a major manufacturing planet.
Government and industrial infrastructure remained tightly linked.
Cities can lose status without disappearing
Sobrik continued to exist after losing the capital function.
Administrative centrality is one layer of urban history rather than the whole history of a settlement.
Anthropological assessment
Capital-city status is an institutional decision that can redistribute prestige, investment, and bureaucratic traffic without erasing older urban centers.
Balmorra's case is especially useful because later wars repeatedly made its cities into military as well as civic landscapes.

Balmorra's transfer of capital: evidence, society and consequences
A dated move, inferred backward from a codex
The most direct evidence for the transfer is the Star Wars: The Old Republic location codex for Sobrik. It describes the city as the former capital and says Bin Prime replaced it about three hundred years before the game. That statement supports an approximate time range rather than a specific signed decree. The game's Imperial and Republic storylines reach Balmorra at slightly different points, so the archive's c. 3942 BBY convention should be read as an estimate of roughly 3943–3941 BBY, not an exact anniversary.
Industrial location matters, without inventing a motive
The codex characterizes Bin Prime as more advantageously situated. Balmorra was an industrial world associated with weapons production, armaments firms and droid factories. It is reasonable to investigate how supply routes and access to manufacturing influenced politics. It is not reasonable to assert the precise cabinet deliberations, legislative vote or construction schedule for the capital move: the available short text does not provide that detail.
Sobrik remains important in a different era
Losing capital status did not erase Sobrik from Balmorra's urban geography. The same codex describes a much later period in which Sobrik shrank, suffered extensive bombardment, was rebuilt by Imperial engineers and became an occupation headquarters near arms and droid manufacturing sites. Those events belong to the later Sith Empire–Republic struggle shown in The Old Republic. They cannot be folded backward into the c. 3942 BBY capital transfer merely because they appear in the same retrospective paragraph.
Anthropology of a capital city
A capital is a legal and administrative designation as well as a physical place. Offices, archives, officials and symbolic authority can migrate while older centers retain homes, industrial plants and social identities. Sobrik's loss of formal precedence and its later role as a military stronghold illustrate two different ways a city can be made politically important. This comparison also shows why the original in-game codex is stronger evidence for this topic than later guides that only repeat the place name.
Historical judgment: Does the codex's mention of Sobrik's bombardment prove it happened when the capital moved?
Analysis: No. The source separates the earlier change of capital from much later destruction and reconstruction under Imperial occupation.
