Ession has become a settled industrial world

By 6000 BBY, Ession is already settled, beginning the long development of a manufacturing and trade center that later becomes part of the Corporate Sector.

By approximately 6000 BBY, Ession had already been settled. Later eras knew the planet as a manufacturing and trading center within the Corporate Sector, but the ancient source does not preserve a specific founding year or colonizing population.

A date that is only a boundary

The phrase 'settled before 6000 BBY' establishes a latest possible date rather than an exact year.

The first settlement may have occurred substantially earlier.

A later manufacturing center

Ession eventually became associated with industrial production and interstellar trade.

That later specialization should not automatically be projected onto the first settlement.

Anthropological assessment

Ession is a useful chronology lesson: historical sources often provide bounds rather than dates. A careful timeline should preserve that uncertainty.

It also reminds us that later economic identity does not necessarily describe the motives or occupations of a world's earliest settlers.

Ession was settled before 6000 BBY, not necessarily in 6000

Evidence and chronology

The Essential Atlas states only that Ession had already been settled before 6000 BBY. Later history associates the planet with industrial production and the Corporate Sector, including Pakkerd Light Transport and other manufacturing. Those later commercial institutions are not evidence of the character or date of the first settlement.

Anthropological interpretation

An archaeological terminus ante quem—'settled by' a given date—is different from a founding date. Keeping that distinction matters for the people who inhabited the planet before the later industrial economy. The available archive does not justify treating all past generations as workers for institutions founded thousands of years later.

What the sources do not establish

The first colonists' identity, their ship, settlement location and exact year are unknown. The Corporate Sector Authority was formed much later, not 6000 BBY. It would be incorrect to call Ession a 6000 BBY Corporate Sector colony.

Test the record: Did the Corporate Sector Authority settle Ession in 6000 BBY?

Explanation: No. Settlement predates 6000 BBY, while the Corporate Sector's political system formed millennia later.
