A familiar moon becomes a vulnerable school
Luke Skywalker had used Yavin 4 as a site for a Jedi training center, often called the praxeum. During the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, the world and its students were exposed to a threat that approached Jedi education as a military target rather than as a protected civilian institution.
The Peace Brigade and the invasion
Anti-Jedi collaborators aided the invaders, hoping to secure political or personal advantage by surrendering Force users. Jedi trainees became targets of the Yuuzhan Vong campaign even as the larger Republic struggled to mount an effective defense.
Anakin Solo moves to protect students
Anakin Solo risked himself to rescue people trapped by the attack. His encounter with the young Yuuzhan Vong warrior Vua Rapuung challenged simplistic assumptions about the invaders as a single culture whose every member had identical beliefs and interests.
The academy cannot be held
The praxeum was abandoned under pressure, and Jedi survivors sought refuge elsewhere. Its loss deprived the Order of a major physical center for teaching and community life. Moving the trainees was a form of preserving the institution through people rather than architecture.
Anthropological assessment
Yavin 4 demonstrates the vulnerability of educational sites during war. Attacks on schools target not only individuals but also processes of cultural transmission: archives, shared spaces and the ties between teachers and students.
Interactive archival analysis
Was the Jedi academy left operating normally on Yavin 4 throughout the Vong invasion?
