During the 232–231 BBY Drengir crisis, carnivorous plant beings threatened worlds in both Republic and Hutt territories. Jedi leaders and Hutt forces cooperated to counter the spread. Their efforts culminated in locating and immobilizing the Great Progenitor, whose connection to the root mind gave her a central role in the Drengir collective.
An enemy crosses political boundaries
The Drengir consumed victims and could spread across very different worlds. Their attacks reached Hutt Space as well as the Republic's frontier, creating an uncommon shared interest among governments usually suspicious of one another.
An uneasy military alliance
Jedi Master Avar Kriss and Hutt leaders coordinated forces despite disagreements about justice and long-standing political distrust. The alliance was tactical, and the two sides did not agree on the proper fate of the Progenitor after her capture.
Locating the source
Jedi Keeve Trennis discovered the location of the Progenitor on Mulita through the Drengir collective. Immobilizing her brought the outbreak under control as other members of the species fell dormant.
Anthropological assessment
A shared emergency can produce cooperation among political rivals without resolving their deeper disputes. The dispute over whether the Progenitor should be killed illustrates different moral frameworks inside an alliance.

Jedi and Hutts confront the Drengir: the historical record
Events, sources and sequences
The carnivorous Drengir threatened Republic and Hutt territories during the High Republic crisis. Jedi and Hutt forces cooperated against a danger that neither political group could safely ignore. Containing the Great Progenitor and its reach differed from conventional campaigns against sentient armies with clear territorial borders.
Anthropological assessment
A biological threat can cross competing jurisdictions, forcing temporary partnerships that do not erase historical enmity. Cooperation between Jedi and Hutts is a case of negotiated necessity, not proof that all members suddenly held the same values. It also shows why ecology and warfare overlap in this era.
Primary publication and date
These stories occur in different parts of the High Republic chronology. Publication order is not identical to fictional chronology, and a novel cover or later character photo does not prove a depicted scene occurred in the dated year.
