An out-of-the-way planet

Jomark was the only naturally habitable planet in a six-world system. Much of its surface was ocean, with scattered islands and a continent suitable for settlements. Legends chronologies place colonization around 1991 BBY. The event is not the earliest history of the world, which had ancient ruins linked to a vanished native civilization.

How the colonists lived

Later Jomark communities practiced fishing and sea farming and remained comparatively isolated from galactic political centers. Agriculture and food production were shaped by available land and coastal ecosystems. The 1991 BBY founding date does not identify the original families or prove that later population figures applied to the colony's first generation.

A later reputation for seclusion

Centuries later, the world's remoteness attracted interest during Luke Skywalker's search for Jedi knowledge. That connection explains its visibility to readers of Dark Force Rising, but the planet's settlement history is an independent event. Sparse maps and limited oversight made it possible for a society to exist without frequent outside attention.

Anthropological assessment

Jomark illustrates the difference between being part of a galaxy and being integrated into its busiest political networks. Peripheral communities can retain their own histories despite the sporadic interest of distant institutions.

Jomark's early settlement

Historical evidence

The Legends chronology places a small permanent Human settlement on the ocean-heavy planet Jomark around 1991 BBY. Later stories made the world better known for isolation and Jedi-related events, but they offer little direct evidence about the earliest households.

Social implications

The settlement of a remote world depends on sustaining food, transport, kinship and communication despite distance from busy routes. A small colony's founding does not reveal the names of every settler or prove later political isolation was already a deliberate doctrine.

Source accuracy note

The dated event is from the original continuity's reference record. The interpretive chart is not an in-universe artifact, and an approximate year does not identify every participant, motive or numerical consequence. Related source links are retained below.
