A revived Sith coalition opens a thousand-year struggle against the Republic and Jedi.

A new Sith military organization

After leaving the Jedi Order, Darth Ruin assembled surviving Sith groups and followers under a new banner. Armed conflict with the Galactic Republic and Jedi Order followed around 2000 BBY. The early clashes helped launch what later historians categorized as the New Sith Wars, overlapping a longer period called the Draggulch Period.

A war that did not stay the same

The conflict extended, with interruptions and varying intensity, until around 1000 BBY. Sith leaders changed, factions competed, and Republic institutions evolved under pressure. Describing the full millennium as one military campaign by Ruin would be misleading. His immediate reign ended when his own followers killed him, but the broader movement survived.

Politics of competing Sith rulers

A central problem for the New Sith was the inability to maintain stable leadership. Ambitious Sith frequently attacked one another even while fighting external opponents. Wars within and between factions shaped the balance with the Republic. The severe cumulative impact of these struggles included territorial loss and institutional transformation.

Anthropological assessment

Periodization can make a thousand years look like a continuous event. This entry establishes the beginning but invites examination of local experiences and smaller campaigns rather than treating the war as a uniform state of galactic life.

Beginning of the New Sith Wars

Historical evidence

Darth Ruin's revitalized Sith order began fighting the Galactic Republic and Jedi around 2000 BBY. The wars extended through many different Sith factions, battles and political changes over roughly a millennium. It is misleading to describe that span as one continuous campaign under one unchanged ruler.

Social implications

A long war alters institutions even when no battle is being fought at a particular location. Trade, political trust, military organization and the Jedi relationship to Republic government changed during this period. The later Republic Dark Age was an accumulated result rather than an immediate condition on day one.

The dated event is from the original continuity's reference record. The interpretive chart is not an in-universe artifact, and an approximate year does not identify every participant, motive or numerical consequence. Related source links are retained below.
