A pilot assigned a very different job
In 34 ABY, Resistance pilot Poe Dameron recruited Kazuda Xiono, an accomplished New Republic starfighter pilot, to investigate whether someone on the Colossus was helping the First Order. The refueling platform operated over the oceans of Castilon and drew pilots, mechanics, travelers and commercial crews whose goals did not necessarily align.
Racing and repair as a cover story
Kaz took a position in Jarek Yeager's workshop, Team Fireball. He was to behave like an aspiring racer while investigating the platform's relationship with the First Order. His inexperience with ordinary repair work contrasted with his flying skill and frequently placed him in awkward situations.
A community with its own institutions
The Colossus had its own administration under Captain Imanuel Doza, a competitive racing culture among the Aces, and everyday services provided by residents like Aunt Z and Neeku Vozo. Kaz discovered that understanding the platform required participating in ordinary life rather than treating all its inhabitants as suspects.
First Order influence is not instantly visible
First Order officers offered apparent security assistance while seeking a permanent position on the station. Some residents feared pirates more than they feared the new stormtroopers. Kaz had to distinguish genuine demand for safety from policies designed to create dependence on an authoritarian security force.
Anthropological interpretation
The Colossus shows the political importance of ordinary spaces such as workshops, bars and refueling infrastructure. A community can lose control over its institutions gradually through commercial arrangements and promises of protection, before overt military rule becomes visible.

Did Kaz arrive on the Colossus openly announcing that he was a Resistance spy?
No. He worked undercover as a mechanic and aspiring racer.

An undercover mission inside a working station
Poe Dameron recruits Kazuda Xiono to investigate First Order activity on the Colossus, a refueling platform on the ocean planet Castilon. Kaz poses as a racer and mechanic, joining Team Fireball while trying to learn which residents are cooperating with the First Order. His amateur espionage exists alongside ordinary station work and the ambitions of its racing pilots.
The Colossus is not solely a military outpost: its economy includes fuel supply, technical labor, commerce and entertainment. Secret surveillance creates friction with friendships because Kaz cannot disclose his mission to everyone around him. A resident's association with station authority should not automatically be treated as proof of First Order loyalty.
