Dalna

By approximately 483 BBY, Sachar Rold had established the Path of the Open Hand on Dalna. Rold had previously belonged to the Guardians of the Whills, but developed a belief that the Force should not be controlled or manipulated by individuals. His new community built a self-sufficient settlement and transmitted a religious worldview that later leaders would interpret in far more militant ways.

A spiritual break with Jedha

Rold's disagreements with his earlier religious organization led him away from the Guardians of the Whills. His new interpretation emphasized the freedom of the Force and rejected the idea that some people had a legitimate right to wield it. This difference was religious before it became the foundation for violence.

A community formed on Dalna

The Path built a compound, shared labor, raised children and attempted to sustain itself through agriculture and exchange. The organization's followers did not begin as an army. Its later crimes should not erase the ordinary community arrangements that helped members see it as a home.

The later appropriation of belief

About a century after its founding, Elecia Zeveron assumed the title of Mother and wielded extraordinary influence over the Path. Under her leadership, the group collected relics, engaged in deception and eventually used the Nameless against Jedi. The transition was a later historical development.

Anthropological assessment

Religious communities are not reducible to their final leaders. The Path's history separates a founding theology from the institutional choices that later turned it into a coercive political movement.

Was Elecia Zeveron the original founder in 483 BBY?

No. The early founder was Sachar Rold. Zeveron became its influential leader much later.

The Path of the Open Hand: history and interpretation

Historical actors and the record

Sachar Rold's teachings helped found the Path of the Open Hand on Dalna. Its members argued that use of the Force by Jedi or others disturbed a natural balance. The organization's origins should not be conflated automatically with the later violence perpetrated under Elecia Zeveron's leadership.

Anthropological perspective

A shared theological claim can make an alternative community possible without determining every future action of its members. The Path's transition toward coercion needs institutional history: leadership, recruitment, ritual and the deployment of Nameless creatures matter more than assuming belief alone caused violence.

Primary source and chronological qualification

This is Canon High Republic history; its story date and the book's publication date are not interchangeable. The Phase II stories take place earlier in-universe than the Phase I books despite being released later. Unshown scenes and uncertain numerical figures are not added as facts.

Two questions, with individual corrections and explanations after submission.

1. Who is associated with the Path's founding?
2. Is the original community identical to every later action by the Mother?
