In 3977 BBY, shortly after Zayne Carrick's fifth birthday, a Jedi referred him to the Dantooine Enclave. Master Vandar Tokare confirmed that the boy's raw Force potential was modest, but the Jedi were impressed by his ability to form friendships and social bonds with other younglings and accepted him for training.

ZAYNE ARRIVES ON DANTOOINE
What the published record supports
A Jedi Knight referred the young Zayne Carrick to the Dantooine Enclave. Master Vandar Tokare saw only marginal Force aptitude, yet his assessment also emphasized Zayne’s unusual capacity to form relationships with other students. His parents weighed a decision shaped by fear of the recent Jedi and Sith wars. This enrollment predates the murder of the Taris Padawans and the Covenant’s later accusations.
Power, society and interpretation
The scene complicates an account of Jedi recruitment based only on Force scores. A bureaucratic evaluation and interpersonal judgment both mattered, while the family’s concern made acceptance more than a simple transfer of custody. The later Covenant conspiracy should not be projected backward as the cause of this 3977 decision: training institutions can change around students after their admission.
Did a high Force aptitude score secure Zayne’s place?
No. His measured aptitude was described as marginal; his ability to form social bonds helped convince the Jedi.
Was Zayne accused of killing Padawans in 3977 BBY?
No. His enrollment belongs years before the later Taris Padawan murders and false accusation.

A marginal score does not end the evaluation
The Order considered social qualities alongside measurable Force aptitude.
Zayne entered training because the Jedi saw potential not captured by raw power.
Parents negotiate with a transgalactic institution
Reiva Carrick questioned whether the Jedi were a safe place for her child.
Recruitment required families to interpret institutional promises in light of recent history.
The Jedi notice qualities the measurement cannot capture
Master Vandar Tokare's assessment did not identify Zayne as a prodigy. What stood out was his ability to make friends and connect with other younglings.
That detail becomes one of the most important clues to his later story. Zayne repeatedly survives institutional crises by building trust across categories that powerful organizations treat as fixed: Jedi and criminal, Republic and Mandalorian, Human and alien, accused and accuser.

Why did the Jedi accept a child with modest Force potential?
Because their evaluation was broader than one power measurement. Zayne's relational ability was treated as meaningful potential.
Were his parents comfortable with the decision?
They had reservations shaped by recent Jedi history, showing that recruitment could involve genuine family anxiety rather than automatic consent.
Anthropological assessment
Zayne's admission shows that institutions can value relational competence even when formal aptitude measures are weak.
It also foregrounds parental consent and anxiety inside systems often summarized only from the institution's perspective.

Zayne's Dantooine evaluation: potential beyond a numerical score
Historical sequence
Around 3977 BBY, the young Zayne Carrick underwent an aptitude assessment at the Dantooine Jedi Enclave. Master Vandar Tokare judged Zayne's raw Force ability to be modest yet recognized his unusual ability to build friendships with other children. The Jedi accepted him for training. This happened long before his assignment to Lucien Draay and the Padawan Massacre on Taris. The admission was not part of the later Covenant conspiracy.
Institutions and everyday experience
A decision about who belongs in a teaching institution can rely on both formal measures and social judgment. Zayne did not excel by a single numerical standard, but making connections was meaningful to the teachers evaluating him. The story also puts parents and caregivers into the history of Jedi education: enrolling in a distant training network altered a child's relationship with home. In a Republic recovering from Sith warfare, sending a child into the Jedi Order could require a family to weigh uncertainty against opportunity. Zayne's story shows that an individual's later reputation need not have been fixed by the criteria used to admit them.
Limits of the evidence
The source does not show a future murderer being identified at Zayne's enrollment; the accusation against him arose much later and was fabricated by the Covenant Masters.
Historical judgment: Did limited raw Force potential automatically exclude Zayne from the Order?
Correction and explanation: No. His capacity to form friendships helped persuade Master Vandar and the others to admit him.
