A new generation begins instruction

Around 15 ABY, Luke Skywalker began training his nephew Ben Solo in Jedi practice. The lessons developed amid Luke's larger effort to rebuild an Order nearly destroyed by the Empire. Ben entered that environment with a family history involving Leia Organa, Han Solo and Anakin Skywalker.

The Order is restored in a different world

Luke's renewed Jedi project did not enjoy the ancient Republic infrastructure that had supported the Coruscant Temple. It emerged amid new political expectations, the legacy of wartime loss and Luke's attempt to recover older traditions without simply reconstructing every practice of the prewar Order.

An apprenticeship that will change

Ben later became a central figure in the fall of Luke's training community and the rise of Kylo Ren. Those events occurred many years after his early lessons. The 15 ABY date should not be mistaken for the destruction of the school, which is associated with 28 ABY.

Anthropological assessment

Restoring an institution is not identical to reopening a building. Apprentices, teachers and shared norms are needed to reproduce a tradition, and the involvement of a close relative changes the emotional and social obligations carried by a teacher.

Did Luke's academy collapse in 15 ABY?

No. Ben's training began around 15 ABY; the destruction is dated much later.

A new Jedi generation has inherited pressures

Luke begins teaching his nephew Ben Solo as part of his attempt to reestablish Jedi training. Ben's parents, Leia and Han, have histories in the Alliance and Republic, while the legacy of Anakin Skywalker adds a separate family narrative. The training should be understood as a long process, not a single appointment lasting one day.

Apprenticeship transmits values through mentors, ceremonies and peer groups, not simply Force skills. Ben's later rejection of Luke's instruction does not demonstrate that he was destined to fail because of ancestry. Lucasfilm's The Rise of Kylo Ren materials present the collapse as a contested personal and institutional history with surviving students and incomplete testimony.

Apprenticeship, family authority, and later retrospective accounts

Ben Solo's early instruction belongs to Luke Skywalker's attempt to rebuild Jedi education after the Empire's suppression of the Order. The apprentice is Luke's nephew, so the relationship is at once familial and institutional. That overlap matters when considering later disagreements: a problem between a teacher and student also affects people whose relationships precede the training community. The archive places the start of this process around 15 ABY, rather than dating the destruction of the school or the beginning of Kylo Ren's military career to the same year.

Lucasfilm's interview with Charles Soule and Will Sliney identifies The Rise of Kylo Ren as the story connecting the temple's destruction with Ben's later emergence under the name Kylo Ren. The interview also reports that three classmates survived the disaster because they had been away on a mission. This supports the existence of a wider instructional community and challenges any suggestion that Ben was Luke's only student. However, an interview about the later collapse does not independently establish the first calendar day of Ben's apprenticeship. For a more exact start date, the named reference chronology and original comic panels must be checked directly.

From an anthropology perspective, the relevant institutions include mentorship, family expectations and a reconstructed religious tradition. A restored Jedi school cannot be treated simply as a replica of the earlier Coruscant Temple because its teachers, political environment and surviving records were different. The Finn childhood dossier illustrates the very different logic of First Order training, while the Luke and Lando inquiry places Luke's life within a wider postwar search for hidden threats. Neither comparison assigns a predetermined future to the child.
