The Empire captures a surviving Jedi
Kanan Jarrus fell into Imperial custody after the Lothal rebels began attracting the attention of Grand Moff Tarkin. His interrogation threatened not only his own life but the safety of other rebel cells. Ezra and the rest of the Ghost crew organized a dangerous rescue aboard Tarkin's Star Destroyer, the Sovereign.
The last duel with the Inquisitor
Ezra helped Kanan escape, but the Grand Inquisitor intercepted them in a reactor chamber. When Ezra appeared to have been fatally injured, Kanan drew on a new resolve and defeated the Imperial hunter. The Inquisitor chose to fall to his death rather than face the consequences of his failure.
A wider resistance makes itself known
The rescuers were nearly trapped by Imperial vessels but escaped with help from ships associated with Bail Organa's growing resistance network. Hera and Kanan learned that their own cell was not alone in opposing the Empire. The mysterious Fulcrum was revealed to be Ahsoka Tano.
Anthropological assessment
The episode marks a shift from dispersed small-group resistance toward coordinated organization. It also illustrates how trust and mentorship can develop without the institutional structure of the former Jedi Temple.

Kanan defeats the Grand Inquisitor
What the original story establishes
After Kanan was captured and interrogated by Imperial forces, the Ghost crew staged a rescue aboard the Sovereign near Mustafar. Kanan fought the Grand Inquisitor and defeated him, while Ezra and other rebels helped the survivors escape. The Inquisitor's death did not end the larger hunt for surviving Jedi, and Imperial command soon escalated its pursuit of the Ghost crew.
Culture, power and material life
The rescue required reciprocal obligations between teacher and student. Kanan was no longer acting as a commander of the Republic's old armies; he was a member of a small family-like cell whose survival depended on cooperation. The episode also shows how the Empire converted its military ships into interrogation and detention spaces.
Dating and evidence limits
Dates are the fictional BBY chronology of Canon stories, not media release dates. A scene's exact calendar day or every participant's motive is not inferred from a later promotional image. Analysis here is distinct from documented dialogue.
