An intervention follows the Great Purge

After the Yevethan government's massacres of non-Yevethan populations in the Koornacht Cluster, the New Republic dispatched substantial forces to halt its aggression. The Fifth Battle Group moved toward N'zoth, the capital of the Duskhan League, and demanded an end to hostilities.

The Black Fleet contains captives with their own plans

Nil Spaar relied heavily on captured Imperial vessels, but some original Imperial crew members had been kept in captivity and forced to support operations. Under Sil Sorannan, the prisoners secretly coordinated through Camp Pa'aal Squadron. They intended to reclaim their former ships rather than assist the Republic's political goals.

The fleet changes hands during battle

At N'zoth, the Imperial captives used control systems and coordinated action to seize numerous Imperial-built ships out from under their Yevethan captors. Sorannan reported their actions to the Republic and directed the reclaimed fleet into hyperspace toward the Deep Core, rather than surrender those ships to his former enemies.

Nil Spaar's resistance ends in defeat

The remaining Yevethan forces continued fighting. New Republic vessels suffered losses as they defeated the war fleet remaining over N'zoth. Nil Spaar was killed after the collapse of his command. The Republic's operations ended the immediate campaign of xenocidal conquest.

Consequences for the intervening government

Military victory over the Duskhan League did not settle all questions about security in Koornacht. The returning Imperial prisoners created a separate strategic problem, and the surviving Yevethan society remained deeply isolated. The victory also came at significant cost to Republic personnel.

Anthropological assessment

N'zoth is a complex coalition battle in which opponents of the Yevetha did not become political allies with one another. Former Imperial prisoners and Republic troops acted toward overlapping tactical ends while maintaining incompatible loyalties. Reducing the battle to a simple two-sided conflict would conceal the motivations of an important group of participants.
