A final campaign around the capital
After several years of war, Galactic Alliance forces and Jedi allies returned to the transformed Coruscant. The final operations aimed to end the Yuuzhan Vong government without condemning every member of the invading species.
The leadership collapses
Supreme Overlord Shimrra Jamaane was killed and Onimi's hidden role exposed. The hierarchy that had directed the invasion ceased to control the war.
A refuge for survivors
The living planet Zonama Sekot became a potential home for surviving Yuuzhan Vong. The settlement allowed some people to seek a future outside the institutions that had sustained conquest.
An enormous reconstruction challenge
Coruscant and many other worlds required extensive recovery. The end of organized fighting did not immediately provide housing, repair ecological damage or heal political relationships.
Anthropological assessment
The conclusion distinguishes ending a violent political regime from seeking the destruction of an entire population. Durable peace requires a place for survivors in the postwar order.

Did the Alliance exterminate every member of the Yuuzhan Vong?
No. The surviving population had paths to refuge and resettlement.

Published evidence and limits
The Unifying Force concludes the New Jedi Order series. Its publisher synopsis documents the Galactic Alliance and Jedi fighting to end the Yuuzhan Vong conflict. A military conclusion is not proof that occupation damage, displacement or social tensions immediately disappeared. Those long-term outcomes require separate evidence. The new featured book cover is not a literal scene from the final battle.

Defeat of an invasion leadership without exterminating a people
The New Jedi Order series ends in The Unifying Force with a struggle on multiple fronts. The Galactic Alliance seeks to reclaim strategic positions and defeat the leadership directing the invasion; Luke Skywalker's team and other allies pursue the possibility of a different outcome for people inside the Yuuzhan Vong hierarchy. The publisher's extensive summary explicitly describes the attempted liberation of Coruscant, the role of Zonama Sekot and an internal revolt among marginalized Yuuzhan Vong groups. These are linked developments, but one should not describe the ending as a single naval engagement with no religious or political consequences.
The prospect of an exterminating biological weapon becomes a major ethical issue within the story. Defending the galaxy from an invading regime is not the same as judging that every person belonging to the invaders' society must be destroyed. The author interview accompanying the publisher's edition discusses internal caste divisions, the outcast Shamed Ones, and differing accounts of the Force. That testimony explains the thematic attention to internal dissent while remaining an author's retrospective account rather than a substitute for every narrative scene in the novel.
IDS examines the distinction between an armed political regime, a population and the individual communities that survive a regime's defeat. A military victory can allow resettlement and reconstruction but cannot restore lost people or homes automatically. The earlier conquest of Coruscant documents the material upheaval. The later Dark Nest crisis follows another problem of political negotiation, not an uninterrupted continuation of the same Yuuzhan Vong war.
Test the evidence: Was the Galactic Alliance's only proposed solution the extinction of all Yuuzhan Vong?
Source judgment: No. The ending contrasts military defeat of the invasion regime with the danger of collective extermination and the possibility of a different future for survivors. The publisher specifically identifies internal Yuuzhan Vong dissent.
