Later in 382 BBY, Jedi and Republic forces confronted the Path of the Open Hand on Dalna in an event remembered as the Night of Sorrow. The Path used the terrifying Nameless against Jedi, and the ensuing battle killed many fighters and civilians. The Path's organized settlement collapsed, but the trauma remained part of Dalna's collective memory.
Investigations after Jedha
The Jedi suspected the Path's role in the events on Jedha and traveled to Dalna seeking answers. Elements of the movement had become increasingly militant, with Marda Ro organizing the Path of the Closed Fist as a force prepared for direct confrontation.
An escalating catastrophe
Nameless creatures attacked Force-sensitive Jedi, causing extreme fear and death. More reinforcements arrived as the conflict expanded, including Republic personnel and local inhabitants. The scale of the response contributed to the high death toll and confusion.
The dissolution of the Path
The fighting destroyed the Path's compound and broke the existing organization. Elecia Zeveron died afterward, but surviving members and descendants carried fragments of the Path's teachings into the future.
Anthropological assessment
Conflicts endure through local accounts that may assign responsibility differently from official military narratives. Dalna's memory of the Night of Sorrow demonstrates why civilian testimony and the aftermath matter as much as the result of a battle.

The Night of Sorrow: history and interpretation
Historical actors and the record
The Night of Sorrow followed escalating conflict between the Path of the Open Hand and Jedi and Republic representatives on Dalna. The Nameless created an especially dangerous threat to Jedi. The event's consequences affected both survivors and the Path's remaining members, setting the conditions for Marda Ro's later departure.
Anthropological perspective
A mass disaster is not reducible to a tally of combatants. Religious institutions, civilian relations and collective memory were altered by the violence. The Nameless also complicated attempts to classify the threat using familiar military categories, since their effects on Force-sensitive people were exceptional.
Primary source and chronological qualification
This is Canon High Republic history; its story date and the book's publication date are not interchangeable. The Phase II stories take place earlier in-universe than the Phase I books despite being released later. Unshown scenes and uncertain numerical figures are not added as facts.
