Attacks across the galaxy
Jedi were shot by their soldiers on planets such as Utapau, Mygeeto, Felucia and Kashyyyk. At the Temple on Coruscant, Anakin Skywalker led the attack that killed many students, staff and defenders.
Some survive
Not every Jedi was killed. Yoda, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and other survivors escaped or went into hiding. The ensuing Great Jedi Purge extended across the Empire's early years as surviving Force users were hunted.
Anthropological assessment
Order 66 is an example of institutional violence engineered through training, technology and information control. The clones' compelled betrayal also made many of them participants in crimes they did not freely choose.

Were all clone troopers voluntarily deciding to betray their Jedi?
No. Inhibitor chips compelled most clones to obey the secret directive.

Order 66 and the Jedi purge: source and social analysis
Historical sequence and documented actions
Palpatine transmitted Order 66 to clone commanders across the Republic, framing their Jedi officers as traitors. Secret inhibitor chips compelled many clone troopers to turn against leaders they had served throughout the war. At the Jedi Temple, Anakin—now Darth Vader—led an attack that killed Jedi and younglings. Some Jedi, including Obi-Wan and Yoda, escaped, so the order initiated rather than completed the wider Imperial hunt.
Power, family and institutional consequences
The program converted an army's familiar hierarchy into a weapon against its own commanders. Clones' implanted controls complicate a simplistic reading of individual consent; later stories depict survivors who removed chips or resisted Imperial authority. The purge also targeted a religious and educational institution whose members ranged from children to military leaders.
Official media and image interpretation
The Rex portrait supplies clone background; the mass purge spans many different planets. The main historical evidence comes from Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch and the specific publisher histories linked here. These events overlap in 19 BBY but are not interchangeable episodes.
