A generation attempts reconciliation
In 122 ABY the New Jedi Order and Yuuzhan Vong shapers began a major undertaking on Ossus. Master Kol Skywalker and Master Shaper Nei Rin supported testing living technology to restore land damaged in earlier wars. The Yuuzhan Vong had once invaded the galaxy, so involving them in a widely visible healing program required overcoming fear and resentment.
A technology associated with war changes purpose
The shapers used biological terraforming methods capable of rapidly transforming landscapes. By applying them to damaged ground, the organizers hoped to show that a technology once associated with conquest could help restore agriculture and ecological health. The work also had a diplomatic purpose, because cooperation could change how other worlds viewed surviving Yuuzhan Vong populations.

Pilot work creates public expectations
Early success on Ossus encouraged wider adoption, eventually involving many devastated planets. Officials and communities began to depend on the project as evidence that a period of recovery was possible. Such enthusiasm also meant that any failure would carry consequences beyond the immediate environment.
Sabotage takes advantage of existing distrust
The One Sith secretly compromised the terraforming technology. Mutations and harm to inhabitants were later blamed on Yuuzhan Vong participants. The disaster intensified prejudice and helped turn political disagreements into the conditions for a new galactic war.
Anthropological assessment
The project shows why technology cannot be separated from the social history of its makers. Reconciliation through shared labor depends on public confidence, and that confidence can be deliberately destroyed by actors who exploit old memories of violence. The victims included both damaged environments and the people accused without proof.

Did the Yuuzhan Vong openly design the Ossus disaster as an act of revenge?
No. The One Sith secretly sabotaged the project, helping frame its Yuuzhan Vong participants.
