In the years after Malak's defeat, Kreia took the title Darth Traya and trained or allied with Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion around the Trayus Academy on Malachor V. Together the three formed the Sith Triumvirate and brought much of the fragmented Sith remnant under a shared leadership.

THE SITH TRIUMVIRATE: source evidence and social context

Chronology and documented limits

On Malachor V, Kreia adopted the title Darth Traya and became associated with Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion, two other Sith shaped by violence and the dark side. Their coalition, remembered as the Sith Triumvirate, drew upon the fractured remnants of the prior Sith Empire. The transition occurred in the period around 3955–3954 BBY, though exact dates for every internal agreement and recruitment are not shown in Knights of the Old Republic II.

Institutions, beliefs and material consequences

This was a coalition with very different conceptions of power: Traya emphasized teaching, manipulation and critique; Sion endured through pain; Nihilus was driven by overwhelming hunger. A shared enemy and access to Malachor’s Academy did not erase incompatible ambitions. The alliance’s later collapse demonstrates the fragility of rule based on powerful individuals without accepted procedures for resolving conflict.

Three different forms of Sith power

Traya emphasized teaching and manipulation, Nihilus embodied consuming hunger, and Sion embodied survival through pain.

Their alliance joined incompatible personal projects under a temporary political structure.

Malachor V becomes a capital again

The world Revan had used to end the Mandalorian Wars became the center of a new Sith movement.

A site of mass trauma was repurposed as institutional infrastructure.

Anthropological assessment

The Triumvirate demonstrates coalition without consensus.

Political organizations can remain powerful even when their leaders share enemies more strongly than they share values.

A new Sith order grows from the aftermath

The collapse of Revan and Malak's central military regime did not eliminate Sith survivors or the damage left by their wars. Traya, Sion and Nihilus came to command a different form of Sith power. Rather than simply rebuild the Star Forge fleet, the new leadership concentrated on hunting Jedi and drawing strength from the remaining vulnerabilities of the Order.

The leaders bring incompatible experiences

Traya approaches power through doctrine and manipulation. Sion survives through pain and rage, while Nihilus's hunger for the Force drives destruction on a scale unlike ordinary political conquest. Their alliance can therefore be understood as a temporary concentration of different interests around a common enemy. It was not evidence that the Sith had settled on a stable governing ideology.

Malachor offers an institutional center

The Trayus Academy on Malachor V provided a place where the alliance could recruit followers and transmit teachings. Its location on a devastated world connected the new Sith movement to the casualties of the earlier war. The academy's survival illustrates why the destruction of fleets and governments does not automatically destroy ideological institutions.

The later overthrow should be kept separate

Sion and Nihilus eventually turned against Traya. That change belongs to another entry because it represents a transformation in the institution after its formation. Treating the initial alliance and later expulsion as one immediate act would hide the period in which the three leaders jointly shaped the emerging threat.

Anthropological assessment: alliances without shared legitimacy

The Triumvirate shows that cooperation can exist among leaders who disagree about what power is for. A coalition based mainly on defeating an outside group may remain fragile when the members possess incompatible goals. The eventual removal of Traya demonstrates how the absence of stable succession rules can convert ideological conflict into direct coercion.
