In 11,708 BBY, traditional Tapani historians mark the end of the Colonial Era and the beginning of the Twelve Kingdoms Era. The Human settlements founded roughly a millennium earlier had developed into independent political communities with their own rulers, rivalries, and regional identities.
From colonies to kingdoms
The Pella Compact had once coordinated the first settlements. Over time, local elites and planetary governments gained greater autonomy.
Later Tapani political culture remembered twelve principal kingdoms as the defining structure of the new era.
A distinct Tapani identity
After more than a thousand years, descendants of the original settlers increasingly understood the region as their own political world rather than merely a distant extension of the Core.
Local calendars, noble traditions, and interworld rivalries strengthened that distinction.
The Pius Dea Republic remains nearby
The Tapani transition occurred during the Pius Dea Era, when the wider Republic was dominated by religious crusades.
Regional political development therefore continued even while galactic institutions were undergoing severe ideological conflict.

Anthropological assessment
The transition from colonial administration to kingdoms shows how migrant communities create new political identities over generations. Institutions brought from the Core were not simply copied forever; they were reworked into local forms of authority.
The date also demonstrates how later historians organize gradual change into named eras. A chronological boundary can be culturally important even when the transformation itself took decades or centuries.
