Teaching Jedi through craft
Huyang instructs generations of Jedi younglings in lightsaber construction. His role joins technical knowledge to ritual training. Building a lightsaber is not simply manufacturing a weapon. It is part of becoming a Jedi.

Institutional memory in a droid body
Because Huyang serves the Order for centuries, his memory spans far beyond a human lifetime. He can identify designs, recall past Jedi, and preserve practical knowledge through political and institutional collapse.
Surviving the fall of the Order
Huyang survives beyond the Clone Wars and later travels with Ahsoka Tano. His continued presence turns Jedi knowledge into something portable. The institution falls, but some of its practices survive through people, records, objects, and droids.
Ahsoka and Sabine
In the New Republic era, Huyang becomes part of Ahsoka and Sabine Wren's small community. He often serves as a critical observer of their unconventional master-apprentice relationship and of how far their training differs from older Jedi norms.
Technology as tradition
Huyang complicates a simple opposition between technology and religion. A constructed mechanical being becomes one of the principal custodians of a spiritual institution's craft knowledge.

A droid as institutional memory
Huyang’s importance comes from duration. He preserves knowledge about lightsaber construction and Jedi training across generations longer than any ordinary teacher could. His memory makes the droid a living archive of techniques, lineages, and institutional practice.
That continuity becomes especially important after the Jedi Order collapses. Knowledge once embedded in temples and formal training survives inside a mobile mechanical body.
Teaching after the institution is gone
Huyang’s later work with Ahsoka and Sabine shows how old expertise can be reused in new arrangements. He recognizes Jedi traditions clearly enough to notice when current relationships do not match historical expectations.
Yet he also participates in training that no longer has a Council, temple, or standardized pathway. The droid therefore becomes a bridge between institutional memory and experimental forms of apprenticeship.
