A Togruta childhood
Ahsoka was born to Pav-ti and Nak-il Tano in 36 BBY on Shili. Her village maintained customs involving family and community elders. She began her life within this Togruta setting, not in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
A ritual and an extraordinary response
As an infant, Ahsoka accompanied her mother during a traditional hunting experience. A dangerous feline carried her away, but Ahsoka's unusual sensitivity helped her return safely. The community interpreted the episode as an indication of her Force abilities.
Recruitment into the Jedi Order
Several years later Plo Koon found Ahsoka and brought her into the Jedi Order. She would later be assigned as Anakin Skywalker's Padawan during the Clone Wars, but those military responsibilities were still far ahead.
Anthropological assessment
The account connects Togruta social rites with Jedi recruitment. Institutions can offer different interpretations of the same child's abilities, and the meanings assigned by family and by the Order need not be identical.

Ahsoka's Togruta childhood: evidence and political anthropology
Documented chronology and participants
Ahsoka was born on Shili to Pav-ti and Nak-il Tano. Tales of the Jedi later depicts her family and a community practice in which her mother takes her on a hunting expedition; the infant's encounter with a predator becomes a sign of her unusual bond with living beings. Jedi Master Plo Koon's subsequent discovery of the young Togruta and her journey to the Temple belong to later childhood, not the birth itself.
Institutions, identities and material life
The village's practices show that Ahsoka had kinship, place-based knowledge and traditions before joining the Jedi Order. Calling her a Jedi from birth would erase that earlier identity. The question is not whether one institution is 'real' and the other primitive, but how children move between communities that define belonging differently.
Source provenance and interpretation
The 36 BBY date is an in-universe chronology placement, not the film, television, or comic publication year. Anthropological interpretation is editorial analysis rather than additional story dialogue.
