In 4001 BBY, Andur Sunrider arrived on H'ratth and began formal Jedi training under Master Chamma. Years earlier, Andur had seen the Force ghost of his grandfather Jev Sunrider and been warned that he would play a part in a coming war. His arrival on H'ratth transformed that family aspiration into institutional apprenticeship.

Andur's Jedi apprenticeship
What happened
Andur Sunrider began training under Chamma on H'ratth. His grandfather's Force spirit had previously pointed him toward a larger struggle, but an inherited family expectation was not a substitute for instruction. Chamma had returned from a long crisis of faith and could now pass on the Jedi tradition to another generation.
Political and cultural consequences
Training marks entry into a relationship with a teacher and an institution. The source does not supply a transcript of every lesson or a detailed timetable for Andur's first year. Vima Sunrider's later role in Jedi history belongs to the future rather than to this one apprenticeship.
Was Chamma still an isolated dark-side exile when Andur met him?
No. He had already been brought back into Jedi life by Noab Hulis.

Training under a Jedi who had once fallen
Chamma had returned to the light after roughly a century of self-imposed exile.
Andur therefore trained under someone whose authority included personal experience with failure and recovery.
Following Jev Sunrider's path
Andur's decision continued a family association with Jedi service.
The link between grandfather and grandson was reinforced by both memory and Force apparition.
Anthropological assessment
Andur's training shows how institutions reproduce themselves through mentorship layered onto family aspiration.
Chamma's own history also complicates simple ideas of purity: a redeemed former dark-sider could become a legitimate teacher of the next generation.

From family expectation to Jedi apprenticeship
Andur's entry into formal instruction matters because the Sunrider family story does not begin with Nomi's later participation in the Sith conflicts. It begins with a family already interpreting the Force as a source of responsibility. The account of Jev's apparition connects Andur's aspirations to an inherited narrative, while his journey to H'ratth places those aspirations inside a structured teaching relationship. Family memory and institutional training are related, but they are not the same thing.
Chamma's history introduces a second form of transmission. A Jedi mentor did not have to be presented as someone who had never failed. In the Legends record, Chamma's withdrawal and eventual return to the light form part of the background to his role as a teacher. That history makes Andur's apprenticeship a useful case for asking how religious and ethical communities handle the return of a former dissenter without pretending that the past never occurred.
What this date establishes — and what it does not
The 4001 BBY placement identifies a stage in Andur's training rather than a documented day-by-day school schedule. The surviving account does not establish a complete list of lessons, classmates, ceremonies, or tests. Nor does the training date mean that Andur already knew the full outcome of the coming conflict. Later events involving Andur, Nomi and their family should be read as later history, not inserted backward into this moment.
Jev's warning supplies a remembered or supernatural family connection to Jedi service, as told in the Legends material.
Chamma's mentorship marks the move from private expectation to instruction within a Jedi lineage.
A chronology label is not evidence for an invented training curriculum or an exact arrival date.
Evidence check: does this entry document Andur's complete Jedi training?
No. It identifies the beginning of formal instruction under Chamma. The available reference should not be stretched into an unsupported account of daily lessons, graduation, or particular combat exercises.
Reading note: The dated placement and character relationships are drawn from the Legends Tales of the Jedi Companion tradition. The distinction between family transmission and institutional apprenticeship is IDS anthropological interpretation, not a quotation from a character.
Earlier family history: c. 4020 BBY — Andur Sunrider is born. His approximate birth date is a reconstructed biographical placement, not a directly depicted scene.

Andur's invitation leads the Sunrider family to H'ratth
A family journey to a teacher rather than a battlefield
Legends reference chronology dates Andur Sunrider's arrival at H'ratth to 4001 BBY. He accepted training from Master Chamma, whose earlier history included a fall to and return from the dark side. His family's journey included Nomi and the household's wider commitments, but Andur was the person beginning the formal apprenticeship. The account should not portray Nomi as already wielding the responsibilities of a Jedi Master, nor should it invent an examination ceremony or named cohort of other students.
Chamma's past changes the meaning of instruction
Chamma's experience of returning from the dark side gives this relationship a theme that will become important in later Jedi stories: authority is not based solely on never having erred. A teacher whose life includes redemption may possess practical knowledge of regret and responsibility. That is an analytical observation about the legend, not a license to supply unrecorded conversations between Chamma and Andur. The Tales of the Jedi Companion is the named reference for the dating and background, which should be distinguished from the later comics about Nomi's training.
Family life continues beside religious vocation
Andur was also a husband and father. Formal Jedi training introduced new absences, travel and obligations without dissolving these relationships. After his later murder, Nomi followed a path toward Master Thon and eventually became one of the era's major Jedi figures. This article concerns the earlier apprenticeship stage; the family's later tragedy and Nomi's decision require separate records. The original comic retrospective supports the later family sequence but not every detail of Chamma's academy.
Source judgment: Was Nomi already a fully trained Jedi simply because she traveled with Andur to his teacher?
Explanation: No. Andur was the apprentice. Nomi's own later entry into Jedi life follows the family's tragedy at Stenness and her encounter with Thon.
