Around 500 BBY, the High Republic era began in current Star Wars canon. The Republic expanded infrastructure, sought closer connections among distant member worlds and relied on the Jedi as explorers, negotiators and protectors. The era's beginning is a broad chronological boundary, not the establishment of the Republic or the Jedi Order for the first time.
An era of renewed exploration
The High Republic era became known for efforts to connect distant parts of the galaxy. Republic officials and Jedi pursued projects involving transport, communications and public safety. These activities unfolded over centuries and varied among worlds; 500 BBY is not the date of every later High Republic initiative.
A flourishing Jedi Order
Jedi Knights and Masters served as peacekeepers, scholars and representatives of the Order. Their role during this period was shaped by institutions that had existed long before the era's start. Later High Republic novels and comics explore the ideals and pressures of their service.
Canon versus the Legends Great Peace
Current canon uses the High Republic framework, with an approximate span from 500 to 100 BBY. The Legends period following the Ruusan Reformations follows a different historical record. Both may appear in the site's chronology but must remain clearly labeled and should not be reconciled through invented events.
Anthropological assessment
Era labels provide a useful scale for studying institutions and infrastructure. They can also flatten the experiences of people whose worlds encountered expansion very differently. The High Republic's exploration projects can be studied as diplomacy and social transformation alongside heroic Jedi narratives.

Did the Republic and the Jedi Order first appear in 500 BBY?
No. Both organizations were already ancient. This is the approximate start of a later Canon historical era.

The High Republic begins: history and interpretation
Historical actors and the record
The High Republic is a broad Canon era, not a declaration issued on one day in 500 BBY. Republic institutions expanded their links with distant systems while Jedi participated in negotiation, travel and protection. The original publishing project follows several generations within this larger period.
Anthropological perspective
An era label can clarify chronology but flatten local variation. Republic transport routes, communications teams and Jedi missions did not mean every Outer Rim community consented to the same government. Readers should separate the timeline's broad period marker from specific events narrated in Phase II and the later Starlight Beacon era.
Primary source and chronological qualification
This is Canon High Republic history; its story date and the book's publication date are not interchangeable. The Phase II stories take place earlier in-universe than the Phase I books despite being released later. Unshown scenes and uncertain numerical figures are not added as facts.
